****** Official World of Tanks OcUK Clan ******

The old, original efficiency formula that I'm talking about highly favoured cap and decap points, that is a fact and pretty much every good player will tell you the same.

My efficiency isn't anything special, but I'm well over unicum with win rate and WN8 and WN7 even. Efficiency is useless and shows nothing, apart from who capped a lot.

I used to be in EFE clan (Everything For Efficiency was the in joke) back when Eff was everything, when platooning all they used to do was fight their way to the cap circle and cap, I used to get flamed by platoon mates for chasing damage and kills when I could have been capping.

Eff and WN8 are just trying to work out if you have played well or not. I find that WN8 seems to have a better correlation to how well I think I have done.

What neither can do (or ever do) is look at how I have affected the game in other ways.

Take the following. Assault on Erlenberg. We were 2 v 4 and defending with 2mins remaining. I was in my type 61 hull down (90mm gun so a shot every 5 secs) holding back 3 t8 meds. If they had rushed me they would have won. But they didn't. All I did was fire at both sides of the building 350m away to keep them pinned down every time they poked.

T8 Arty was screaming at me to go and kill them. I explained that all we had to do was survive. He then said that we had to kill all to win. I returned with "it's assault idiot - just defend to win" and was told I was a noob.

Conclusion - my game - 2 kills, 1500k damage, no great shakes. BUT, I had held back 3 meds by NOT dying. I made the right decisions to win the game. Scored middling eff and wn8.

Over a large amount of games win rate is the best measure of skill - IF and ONLY IF you ignore platoons, seal clubbing and all tanks are balanced perfectly. None of which are true.

For example, if I played nothing except my T18 (221 battles 61% win rate) I'd have a much better win rate than my 53%.

So on balance I reckon wn8 is about the best best measure we have.

I have a spec sort of question for you guys

I'm just in the process of switching my mother board, cpu and hd over to new specs

I'll be running the following

i5 4690k DC
Z97 Giga mobo
H100i
GTX660 graphics card
240gb SSD
16gb Ram

Has anyone got a simaler sort of set up and can they give me any indication what FPS I should expect / what graphics level I should be able to run at?

I currently play with the GTX660, a e5500, 4gb ram with everything switched off at about 38/32FPS in normal view (Much higher in arty of course) with some of the OMC Mod pack installed

I run an EVGA 660SC, 840 Evo SSD, 2500k @ 4.4ghz and on improved graphics I run most things maxed out with just some of the annoying effects switched off that can get in the way of seeing what you're doing, I get 70+ fps on most maps.

But those situations are rare and have little effect on overall stats ( I don't play assault though, most tomatoes are too brain dead for standard battles never mind assault).

I too have situations where just being patient and doing nothing special helps to win the battle, I play a lot of high tier light tanks and even though I prefer to deal damage with them if the situation calls for purely passive scouting then I will do it, it results in a win but bad WN8, but my recent is still over 3000 even with light tank play.

Apart from the occasional situation like the one you mentioned, the best way to ensure of the win is to deal damage and preserve your HP for the end game, statistically this will give you the best chance of effecting the win, don't believe this rubbish about "oh but it's just me, how can I effect the battle if my team are crap", every battle has the potential to be carried if you're good enough.

I play mainly solo and a lot of tanks that all the whiners will tell you are useless, and yet my overall is 61% and on a daily basis I usually end around 64-66%.

Oh man, I wish I could achieve those frame rates. I have the spec in my sig and I get around 30-40 at max! :(

Maybe I have it turned down more than I think then, I'll check when I'm on next.

TBH I'm not a massive GFX OCD freak, so long as it looks ok and performs well I'm happy, a lot of the effects that look nice are quite bad for game play though so I have some of them off/turned down.

I think you are bang on. Preserving HP is something that I didn't take seriously enough until recently. I though that if I did more damage than I received it was all good. But you are right there are times when having 'hits' to trade for kills is essential. Knowing you can take a hit in exchange for a kill is important.

My fave medals BY FAR are the kolobanovs - they are the reward for a never give up attitude and great end game play.

1st game in Chaffee and I think I like it :-) Stock tank as well (good crew though).

Sounds good hopefulyl mine will do reasonable then as well

its just a 1.5gb OEM GTX660 that I have so have to see what it performs like in the new build

cheers pal

I still remember the T50-2 - one of my all time faves. So fast that almost no-one could hit it. Circling HTs to death, the rage from arty - good times.

Then they wrecked it.

VK2801 - great tank - then they wrecked it.

Chaffee - enjoying it so I guess they'll wreck it soon.

Think I love the chaffee now. Still not got top engine. Nearly 4000 spotting damage and 2600 direct damage :-)

Made ONE stupid mistake when we were 4 v 1 and got killed. There was an AFK T28 who was spotting the last enemy lowe every time he came near our cap. The other 2 tanks just had to split up. one cover base from cover and use T28 as spotter, the other (a flakbus) only had to go and cap.

Luckily the flakbus managed to get a lucky pen and kill the lowe

LOL - takes 1900+ to get ace tanker in chaffee (T5) and only 1240 in a PzSflV a T7 TD. Just goes to show how rubbish it is !

Right then strongholds - is anybody interested in trying to get this going ?

We would need datamonkey to set it up as only the clan commander can set it up. From there I don't know what level of clan member needs to instigate battles etc.

I think it would be a fun way of getting a few members interacting and setting up times to play when its convenient not like clan wars.

Would it be worth while having a quick show of hands ?

Who is interested ?????
