i get free shipping so it works out at £599.88

anybody have a different ideas would love to go intel but the Mobo+cpu prices are just so much higher.

A few small sacrifices but intel build:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £167.99
1 x VTX3D Radeon R9 280 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £65.99

1 x Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler £19.99
Total : £617.87 (includes shipping : £12.50).

You need a cooler for either build really, especially if he's into overclocking. :)

Other bits:

280 is better than the 760.

Faster RAM will give better response times.

Superflower PSU's are ROCK SOLID.

ha didnt even think to look at faster ram in that budget. he's not into overclocking really so may even look to drop the K cpu, only question i'd have is the vtx gpu, but thats being tainted by my personal experience and the rma's i've had to do with them.

taken a few things from your spec and added some things, drastically reduced case as lets face it he wont be bothered by it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 WindForce 3X OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £155.99
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV "Frost Edition" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-21300C11 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit £65.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £65.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £57.98
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £46.99
1 x BitFenix Neos ATX Tower Black/Silver £29.99
Total : £611.02 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Woooooooot 8600GT :D
Used may be a great option, used 4670k/3570k, good mobo, R9 280X/670/760, RAM and you're laughing. New everything else, such as HDD/SSD case etc, as they don't have appreciable savings to go for used items, however if he wants everything new, I like doomed's build up there ^ :D

told him this but he wants new everything, think its his first new computer in a long time. He's still rocking an 8600gt so anything is gonna be a major upgrade.

Tell your mate he' a bloody idiot. He'l get a much better system via the MM than he will buying new, with a £600 budget.
He could most likely get a 4770k, Z87, 280x and the rest of the bits for £600.

Bit harsh? :D

:D

4770k no chance but i5 for sure. I know i have one! :D

Yeah 4770k is probably a bit ambitious :D

- 4670k ~£130
- Mobo (Z87-D3HP or something) ~£80
- GPU (760 *cough* / 280X) ~£120
- RAM ~£45
- PSU ~£35

New

- Case ~£40
- Cooler ~£20
- HDD ~£50
- SSD ~£80

Total to..

Whaaaat? Exactly £600 :D :D
No idea it would total to that...

This is what I'd get for the new stuff;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £41.98
1 x Raijintek Agos Midi Tower - Black £39.95
1 x Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler £19.99
Total : £191.51 (includes shipping : £8.00).

then for the used as I said from MM ^

- 4670k ~£130
- Mobo (Z87-D3HP or something) ~£80
- GPU (760 *cough* / 280X) ~£120
- RAM ~£45
- PSU ~£35

For £600 that's amazing value and you even get an SSD for £600 :o

I would still go used. With a £30 case he is mad because there will be hairs and dust over everything within 2 weeks. I bet within 3 weeks it looks the same as a 1 year old system.

Most of the parts are used, the one's I quoted in my last post were for used parts :) - the cooler you wouldn't get for much cheaper used, the case is decent and I believe has some dust filters, the HDD/SSD could be had used but why not get new?

I would go with this, drop down to a 4670k if you need to save a bit more.

I would go with this, and just save up a few months and get a decent SSD.
