Hi Guys

Got my new car this week, now I know some people steer clear of cat D's but myself and my father in law (who did all the work) was only looking at minor damage to repair, nothing mechanical purely body work, he carried out all the repairs in his garage and we paid some mobile chap who we know is good at spraying to visit and do the paint work

It's a 2010 28K on the clock and in fantastic condition, PAV was 14.5K although I think it was slightly over priced at that, I spent £7000.13 in total :) for the purchase and all repairs, which included a visit to a local Ford dealer as it had a start issue which turned out to be a fuel filter and low battery charge. Its MOT'd and insured just waiting for the DVLA to get a move on and send the log book back then I can get the tax and start using it :D

One thing I need to do is get a mobile/local dent man to pop some minor dents out, also I need a spare non button key for those emergencies when I need a spare key.. Am I best to speak direct to Ford for the key?

Can anyone recommend a dent company in the Herts/Beds area..?

All in all I'm very happy with it, I needed a 2 litre to tow our Bailey Ranger caravan plus the 3 kids and a dog to get in there ....

I like how you named the model of your caravan. Its a caravan. :p Nobody is going to go "Oooooooh, a Bailey Ranger!" :D

Car looks smart. :)

Decent looking repair - especially on the rear quarter. Keep those photos too, they give someone like me a bit of confidence in the car, I would never buy a cat d if I couldn't see the before's

21.5k for this? surely you could have just bought one that isn't Cat D for that?

Do correct me if I'm reading it wrong

Are you going to get the rest of the car detailed? I would imagine that the new paint is a lot smoother than the rest of it?

Good question, I have been looking over the cleaning thread but its all new to me as I've never bothered so much in the cleaning side other than a Sunday morning shampoo, rinse, shammy and hoover :)

I gave it a two bucket wash and then went over with AutoGlym super resin polish

How do I go about detailing the rest? And what do I need to carry that out, your absolutely right some parts feel rough compared to the new panel but its not that bad

Well done on doing it properly, ive seen some garages purely use filler to repair damage like that!

Guys

I've noticed my fuel cap doesn't spring to the open position or spring back to closed so the internal return spring must have come off or be missing

I can buy a complete unit online but has anyone got any ideas how to get the funnel and door assembly out?

No luck looking online

It baffles me how body shops can chop out big sections of panels like that, then weld in a new bit and make it look like nothing's happened. That's a lot of skill.

Looks good!
