AMD Readies Steamroller Based A4-7300, Athlon X4 860K / 840, Athlon X2 450 and FX-8370 For AM3+ Processors For Q3 2014

Reports from several manufacturers have revealed that AMD is readying a new series of processors for their existing platforms. These new processors will include FX-8370 for the AM3+ platform and Steamroller based Athlon X4 860K, Athlon X4 840 and Athlon X2 450 for the FM2+ platform.

The most surprising thing listed on the source was the mention of FX-8370, a processor arriving on the AM3+ platform. The release of the processor is pitted in September 2014 while the other processors will launch in Q3 2014 (August – September). The FX-8370 will replace the FX-8350 as the flagship AM3+ processor while there’s also a hint that AMD will launch the FX-8310 processor. Both processors will be based on the existing Piledriver core architecture and will be Eight Core models featuring 125W and 95W TDP respectively. Clock speeds are not known but they will receive a higher clock speeds than their predecessors. Keeping the TDP low would mean that AMD will not aim for the 220W 5 GHz specifications of the FX-9000 series processors.

The 8370 seems entirely pointless....

Not really, the Steamroller cores showed a decent improved IPC in the 78XX APU's. If the new 8370 based on SR has the same gains possibly more with the extra cache etc, it could actually be a decent lil chip if priced accordingly.

Nice for AM3 users to have another upgrade option as well.

Its a piledriver core again, same with the 8310.

Shame really, was hoping they could push out a steamroller based 8 core am3+ chip, but chances look slimmer each announcement.

It's just more PD refreshes, and then the SR Athlons (That me and a few others showed interest in a while ago).

Not a fan of the PD refresh, but more SR chips are cool.

Ah sorry mate, Yeah must have misread, thought it was on SR.. Can't understand more PD chips at this point. SR would have been nice for AM3 owners.. Oh well..

So it's the lower end that's SR and high end still on PD.. Shame seems like a wasted opportunity. A new FX SR chip on AM3 would have been nice for the current users to have opportunity to upgrade to..

I dont expect to see Steamroller on AM3+ at all tbh.. If they are ever gonna release a pure CPU based on steamroller (non of that APU stuff) im sure it would require a new socket as well, AM3+ is already to bloody old and obsolete. Ofcourse i could be wrong and time will as always tell.

AMD Announces the Athlon 860K and FX-8300 CPUs

In addition to its new A-series APUs, AMD announced two new CPUs, the Athlon 860K, and the FX-8300. Built in the FM2+ package, the Athlon 860K is a quad-core CPU based on the 28 nm "Kaveri" silicon, with its integrated graphics disabled. It features four "Steamroller" CPU cores clocked at 3.70 GHz, with an unlocked base-clock multiplier that enables overclocking. The two modules that make up the four cores feature half their normal L2 cache amounts, and so the total L2 cache is just 2 MB. The chip will run on socket FM2+ motherboards based on the A88X, A85, A75, and A55 chipsets. The FX-8300, on the other hand, is a budget eight-core processor in the AM3+ package. It's based on the 32 nm "Vishera" silicon, featuring eight CPU cores spread across four "Piledriver" modules; clocked at 3.20 GHz, with 3.50 GHz of Turbo Core frequencies. The chips feature 2 MB of L2 cache per module, and 8 MB of shared L3 cache. Its TDP is rated at 95W.

I think the 8370 is a good idea if it replaces the 8350 at the same cost. These CPUs need higher clocks to get the most out of them and not everybody is happy overclocking.

With the 8300 announced, if this overclocks well it could be amazing value. Edit: it seems the 8300 was released ages ago, so I'm not sure why AMD has announced it again.
