Hi guys. I've got an IIyama ProLite B2409HDS connected to an EVGA 4GB 670 card via HDMI. Ever since I've had it in this configuration, the screen would go black temporarily (like you've changed source) when loading a video.

The problem only used to affect VLC but it's now doing it for web-based video players as well such as Youtube, Vimeo etc. which is getting very frustrating as you always lose the first 5 - 10 seconds of video.

Does anyone have any ideas on what's causing it because it's starting to do my head in! Not sure what info you'll need so will answer any questions as promptly as I can. :)

Have you tried using another cable? I had a similar issue with my current Samsung when i got it, as soon as you started to play a video the screen would go black (even if the video was in a window) and then back on again similar to what you describe.

Anyhow, did a lot of testing of using the display with other inputs and cables as i didn't want to rma the monitor if i didn't have to. Anyway, it turned out to be a faulty dual-link dvi cable I was using.

Don't think so. I did the test with the flashlight and I can briefly see an image on screen before the backlight comes back on but it's not there constantly.

The monitor is connected via HDMI so I was wondering if that could have caused it?

It also doesn't do it for all videos, mainly just large / HD ones.

What graphics card have you got? it sounds very much like the issue i had. If it is not the cable it could also be the graphics card, try a different output type e.g. dvi? also, it could be something to do with hdcp and copy protection, maybe try disabling hardware acceleration for flash video's.

Can you not try the monitor on another computer? I think its probably worth troubleshooting a bit more as don't want to RMA an item which may not have a problem.

Although, if it's one of the business grade monitors with onsite warranty they are very good. I had mine swapped out without any trouble several years ago now.

sounds to me like its to do with aero settings. Not sure how to described but sometimes when i use remote desktop it happens and then windows will ask for it to be set to basic rather than high quality. Try setting it to basic test and try again to see if you fix it. Not sure how really to fix it tho

Tested on a diff comp or if poss through onboard gpu on the mb instead of the gfx card? How old is it btw?

Btw ur not alone i think.

Can you make sure its set to 1080p 60mhz refresh rate, it might be set to 50 for some reason i think i read somewhere when googling.

Just checked, it's set to 60mhz. That problem sounds identical to what I have.

EVGA 4GB 670 card. I'll try the monitor as an extension to my laptop and see what happens then.

Monitor is a few years old so probably well out of warranty. It's done it for as long as I can remember (possibly since day 1) but it only used to do it on MKV videos through VLC. Now it's doing it every time a video plays on Facebook etc. and it's becoming unbearable.

I followed this guide to try and strip back the visuals: http://superuser.com/questions/445971/disable-aero-on-windows-8

It still did it with that enabled

you said its always done it? i take it you've tried the simple stuff like a complete driver uninstall and reinstall? different hdmi connector on the card? even try using dvi instead

I don't think it is anything to do with aero as that doesn't change anymore either in windows 7 or 8 / 8.1 with flash or mkv videos (i've got a 680 and haven't had anything like that happen).

i would if it were me try
different cable (which i think you already tried)
different connection - change to dvi if your display supports dvi
different graphics card - if you have intel you can test with onboard

then look at software
drivers - complete removal and reinstall
video codecs / adobe flash version - same again
maybe a reinstall of os (take an image of your current system first with macrium reflect or other imiging software)

But i may be wrong but if it specifically triggered by starting to play video its likely something to do with refrash rates or copy protection (hdcp).

I had the problem on Win 7 and Win 8 so I don't think it's a driver issue. Weirldy it doesn't do it for non-HD videos on Youtube. I think it may only be certain videos, possibly with the h.264 codec?

Fixed it, I put an HDMI - DVI adapter and connected to the DVI port of the monitor instead. Must have been something to do with the way the monitor handles the HDMI connection.
