A small change to the UK's copyright laws has finally made it legal for Brits to do what they've most likely been doing for a decade — copying a CD to MP3 format.

No, it was illegal to rip CDs and move that content in MP3 format to other devices. This is call "format shifting" and was until very recently illegal.

Digital downloads were never illegal to copy to other devices as long as it was in the terms of licence.

I haven't been able to locate the actual legislation, but from what I read from the IPO, it looks like this will be covered.
