OcUK Rolling Road Day 18 @ Powerstation (Tewksbury) - Saturday August 9th 2014!!

Stick me down on the running list Gibbo, however my mate will only be spectating.

E46 M3

Done, might as well rename this one to BMW rolling road event.

Guys feel free to invite others and post up on other forums, be epic if we could get 20+ cars running. :)

Put me down for this, will be interesting to see what I get pre valve clearance check.

-Neil- BMW Z4M Roadster.

Neil.

Guys

It is with deep regret that I have to drop out from the runners. You don't know how gutted I am about this, I shall still attend but in the 911 or shall passenger up with RJK.

Why? Well M3's clutch kit, flywheel, engine mounts, gearbox mounts amongst other new parts all installed last night. When the SMG calibration process and well it failed on the pump/actuator bleeding with an error 59. Car also refused to select any gear or even attempt to start, just stuck in neutral. It was by this time 4am so was time to call it quits.

I have now read up and error 59 is normally when a clutch is very worn out or the sensor on the slave cylinder is playing up, well clutch is brand new and sensor was fine before.

So I decided to go straight to phase 2, bleeding of clutch and well it was certainly taking a lot of fluid, where was it all going, yep you guessed it, the FLOOR. Seems the slave cylinder has given up the ghost. :(

Why has this happened, well in road driving even in maximum attack the SMG system typically only operates at upto 50% capacity, the SMG reset/calibration puts the system through a 100% test and can only guess the slave cylinder or its seals were no longer up to the task. :(

New slave cylinder on order from Germany, won't get here and won't be fitted in time. :(

As such I won't be running any car, but shall attend and still organise the event. :)

That sucks gibbo, was looking forward to seeing the car :( hope it hasn't cost too much?

It's standard unfortunately, want to get it mapped once I get a new exhaust too it's just a case of funds. Whilst I'd love a carbon air box I can't warrant the expense of all 3 just yet!

That's a real shame Gibbo :( Not taking the 911 onto the rollers instead? Or do you know everything there is to know about that?

I just hope I can get my newly reconditioned turbo on and sorted before the RR.

EDIT: On another note, will there be a meetup at Stafford again?

I nearly wasn't coming. Exhaust mod wasn't going to be done in time.

I've managed to get my decat on today though.
No CEL and the throttle response is absolutely daft. Not driven enough to see if the bum dyno can pick up the changes.

Shame not more people are coming though really. Poor show of hands for an RR event really.

Gutted for you gibbo, is there no specialists able to do it or is it just stuck at Bens now?

Take it the 911 is going on track on Thursday then :p

Ah the virgin zone of the cylinder. Same issue when you bleed brakes using the full pedal stroke. Gutted.

Well I am guessing because the slave is not new and the fact the rest of the gearbox is new that the bleed/calibration showed up a weakness and the slave has let go. :(

Not bloody cheap either for an SMG car, this clutch change has being a nightmare, delays, problems, more delays.

On a positive note every single suspension bush, cross member bush, diff bush, subframe bush, engine mount, gearbox mount along with clutch kit and flywheel. The car should drive amazingly well.

On another positive I did manage to clean the entire underside of the car last night and its now pretty spotless and no oil or fluids leak at all, except for the massive green puddle of hydraulic fluid on the floor from slave cylinder.

Just gotta hope when all replaced the car has not bricked itself and will come out of its error state and allow itself to be started or run through the actual calibration/bleed test and clear the errors successfully. Otherwise more money as the only option will no doubt be a recovery to a specialist, fingers crossed once new slave is in it shall behave and fire back into life.

911 no point on running on a dyno, I know what I need to know, lets see I might decide to run on the day.

Track day, yes 911 attending, shall take it easy though as on ceramics and I don't need the expense of another set of those. ;)

RR can you give me a lift if I don't take 911?

Gibbo, take my Silvia because I can't go :p

How was it on track day?

My mate was their in the red M3, who has bragged to me this morning he was fastest car on track all night. Was probably the only guy running slicks. ;)

Everybody thinks they are the fastest ;) I did see him but never ran with it.
The Silvia was brilliant, I never had chance to sort the brakes out so predictably they were absolute rubbish and meant I was having to lift and coast from half way on both the straights. I need some hoses and good pads then I can fit the bigger brakes.
The engine doesn't like to rev past 6k and has a spurious misfire sometimes in the highest torque zone. I think I will ditch the S14 hybrid ignition setup and get Spec-R ones. I bought a Tomei System 1 ECU, mapped to suit the BPU mods I have but it didn't show up on time, that may or may not improve the power band at the top end.

All that stuff is boring though, the handling is fantastic I'd say it's definitely more fun and engaging than the BMW. The balance and adjustability with throttle is just sublime, it reminds me a lot of kaiowas AW11 in that respect. AD08R tyre is phenomenal, front end absolutely glued which is how I like it, the rears could probably benefit from being wider but no real struggle. I was able to run right with this heavily modded Evo4 that was stripped and on full slicks. If I had brakes I could have lapped a lot quicker.

Colin & co at Javelin ran the evening well. 57 cars were signed on so I thought it would be mayhem with just 3 hours, but it was totally fine. Plenty of seat time, track really quietened down after the first hour and no queuing.

Good stuff I also like the rule Javalin seem fine about you running slicks with no cage whereas book-a-track seem to sometimes allow it another times not.
