Nvidia to launch GeForce GTX 880 in September

ROPS and the 512 bit bus are the reasons the 290's rule at 4K over 780Ti's/Titans. I'd expect Nvidia's next flagship to have 64 Rops and a 512 bit bus just like the 290's have.

Rules might be a very subjective way of putting it.

Titans are 4k king. Not just purely on VRAM.

The flaw in your argument is the GTX 690 has more memory bandwidth than a 290X, 780ti or Titan.:D

How many of these 880's are you getting on launch day Kaap ? 2, 3, 4 ?

*EDIT* I'm really tempted by the 880 for the huge frame buffer as I'm on 4K but I just know when the 780 Ti successor *880 Ti maybe ?* comes out a few months later I'll be selling off the 880 :p

None I am saving my money for just after xmas by which time we will know what is really happening with the next gen high end cards and also whether Haswell-E is a hit or miss.

Good man, I know the 880 isn't really going to be THAT much faster than the 780 Ti but it will still be faster and that's going to be a test for me in patience until the 880 Ti comes out or if it comes out :)

As the 290x has less Bandwidth compared to the 780ti then it must be the Rops on the 290x helping at 4k.

R9 290X: 64 ROPs - Pixel Fill Rate = 64 GPixl/s
780TI: 48 ROPs - Pixel Fill Rate = 42 GPixl/s

Higher Res = more pixels = higher pixel fill rate comes in.

Yes. The 290X is geared more for 4K than the 780TI because of ROPs.

:)

Ah I thought the 800 series was going to be delayed quite a bit, was about to pull the trigger on a second 780... got some thinking to do this weekend!

be interesting to see what they do with their prices
unless it comes in at 500+ they will need to drop
nvidia have a lot of cards around the same performance right now

I think this nicely sums up what Nvidia are going to do with customers and the 800 series :p

I watched the PCper podcast earlier and basically, it is a rebrand of a rebrand of a rebrand. It could well be more power efficient, it could well be faster, it could well be cheaper but the fact remains, it is a 680 under the hood.

AMD are following suit with Tonga as well. I swear both of them are drinking partners and both say "let's mug them off again" and shake on it :D

If it truly is a 780 under the hood just re-branded then Nvidia can go suck a bag of di**s, Getting really sick of all this re-brand BS.

I think he was saying it was a 680 rebrand which is a different animal from the 780. I was really hoping for a 780ti rebrand as I could do with more juice for 2560x1440 gaming. I'm guessing the low bus will really suffer at this res.

Isn't the bus fine for 1440p?

This can be said for nearly every product/market, very few genuine leaps forward.

Ssd's being the last one coming to mind

Yep. The last big upgrades I made were Q6600 to I7 920 and GTX280 to 5870.

I want a 4k monitor so my 780 3gb's will have to go but this hasnt left meany options really :(
