Trrifire 290. Is a clocked 4790 not strong enough?

Had two cards running a while on 3770, and that provided decent experience.

But now running triple 290 on 4790, and it's just not smooth at all.

I get major fops fluctuations, down the around 30fps from like 100+, sometimes when it seems like nothing overly taxing going on.

Tried two cards briefly, and while the avg/max may not have been as high, it was far smoother.

This is with 4790 at 4.7. Oh, and the 3770 was at 4.5

Or is it just another amd driver bug?

What motherboard? If it's running 8/4/4 or 8/8/4 this might be where your problem lies. On the subject of pci, is it running gen 3?

What are you running and what resolution are you using that is causing the problem.

Normally trifire 290s are very smooth.

Edit it is also not a good idea to overclock the CPU too high as this could cause the problem, far better to max the game settings and run @4.0ghz. Having said that it depends on the situation, BF4 online multiplayer needs the CPU overclocked to deal with the servers.

Sorry, I started falling asleep while typing the op, so left out some helpful info.

Full system:
4790k at 4.7
Gigabyte z97 g1 wifi bk (hate this board)
32gb Kingston beast 2400 @ 2133
2 x powercolor pcs+ and 1 x ref msi 290 with asus bios all under liquid
3 x dell u2414 in eyefinity
Sound blaster z
Samsung 840 evo 500gb + lots of other drives

In reference to CPU clocks, kaap, I get the same at stock, just frame rate lower over all.

Have tried on ultra and high, using mantle and dx11.

Looked at the gpu's usage graph in afterburner, and it's all over the place. Talking major spikes down to 0% at times. Though not on all cards at same time.

Motherboard being a g1 black, all cards have 8 lanes gen 3 PCI-e,

I did also have similar on 14.4 drivers and currently 14.7

I am loathe to start uninstalling and installing drivers though, as it has taken me quite some time to get this system usable thanks to crappy bios from gigabyte. Yesterday was pretty much first time got to use in about three weeks of trouble...

Though, maybe this all down to the motherboard too. It is such an absolute pile of stinking dung.

Using these afterburner settings eye?

Oh yeah, windows 8.1 pro

I thought all that did was something like read a single glazed card and apply same values to all?

Just trying out cat 14.6 rc2 (was a joy uninstalling. Not)

What do you mean was a joy uninstalling?

Tried the "normal" method - The catalyst uninstall option. Was greeted with display corruption, a BSOD on restart, black and white side monitors on next restart, and only to find it had not actually removed a thing.

DDU to the rescue.

Tried 14.6 rc2 2 with no difference.

Trying that unified setting though don't hold out much hope.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it's the motherboard. This thing has been a problem since day one.

Only last couple days it's been running stable after weeks of grief.

Yep, apart from enable unified gpu moenitoring

This is what my usage looks like on LOW settings.

Do you own any of the game benches we use in the threads. If so can you run on stock GPU settings with 3 cards and post the results (Min/Avg/Max).

I can then run 3 cards and the CPU on 4 cores so you can compare the minimums.

Can score around 11500 in firestrike. Can't remember unigine valley score.

But having been concentrating on gpu usage, I stupidly din't look at CPU usage.... it's sitting under 50%.

So, the gpu's are never going to be stressed in that case, but this is a new problem for me.

Do you own any games with benchmarks you can run?

Will do.

Though getting tired of testing and troubleshooting this PC now.

It's just one thing after another for the last month.

I miss my Asus board and 3770k

It was rock solid.

Superflower 1200W, so should be fine.

On Sleeping Dogs I got
Min 61.2
Avg 158
Max 231.2

Though I did not have the high res tesxtures
