Sending large files online - 1500 files - Total 36gb

Dvd-r would be the cheapest option. Maybe you have an old laptop hard drive and USB enclosure handy?

USB or an SD card will cost an order of magnitude more than optical media but if the USB/SD were to be returned then it'd be different.

Would not fancy uploading that much at work unless it could be done without anyone knowing and you'd still need to get the data to work.

From your speedtest, it looks like you're on standard DSL which has a poor upload. If you switched to BT/Sky fiber then that should dramatically increase your upload speed (Between 10Mbps and 20Mbps).

I don't think suggesting to change ISP is really great advice here.

A 32GB flash drive is £8, hardly a massive investment.

You can probably massively reduce that file size using 7zip with bzip2 on Ultra.

I compressed the world data and configuration for my old mineshaft server from around 20gb down to 10gb or so

Depends. If it's RAW then maybe but togs don't tend to send those out to anyone. If it's JPG then it won't compress much more as it's already a compressed format. Not sure about DNG or TIFF though.

They are RAW files but they are to send to my friend, clients are given JPEGS on a CD or dropbox due to their smaller size.

I'm going past work soon, will check the speed and if it's slow will pinch a couple of flash drives and stick them in the post.

P.S - This has made me look at new internet providers now. Seem daft to have one so slow when we are happy to pay for such trivial household things every day. Never really needed decent internet speeds before!

Yea but how much would it cost to post out a usb stick and then ask them to send it back? Like £2? first class, be there next day.

You'd have to pay a lot for major upload speeds...I cant see it being worth it, but then each to their own!

If you envision doing it often, get fftc broadband and possibly setup an ftp server.

A torrent won't really help as you'll typically have only one seed and one leach.

Or just post it on a flash drive /SD card.

USB stick via post would be the quick dirty solution if it's a one off.

Why don't you compress them? 7zip would be the best but then hardly anyone is going to have that installed or even know how to use it so ZIP or RAR is next best thing. You could potentially knock off 10-15GB straight away.

:D at some of the comments!

Work internet sucks too! I remember there being some issue with the speed there.

I've stuck it on a couple of USB sticks and will get someone to post it tomorrow as I'm off for 3 weeks now :D

EDIT : My current provider is TalkTalk on their unlimited broadband (Up to 16gb speed apparently). Is it likely I'll be in a similar position no matter which provider I change to unless I go over to fibre?

EDIT 2 : I know nothing about compressing files, but will look into it for next time.
