Nvidia GTX Geforce ‘Grand Finale’ at Gamescom 2014 – Gigabyte GTX 880 Gaming G1 Revealed

Yer, that would have been sweet and no saying it won't be that good. My guess is purely a guess and based on nothing :D

8800 all over again would be pretty awesome.

Nvidia may call it the GTX880 and GTX870, but we all know they are really just "GTX860Ti" and "GTX860" in terms of spec, as they are not the big Maxwell...

Architecture wise, the GTX880 would be more similar to the GTX680 on the 256-bit bus than the GTX780 on the 384-bit bus...

Specs are irrelevant though if it gives the performance.

The GK104 680 out performed "big Fermi" GF110, so its possible that GM204 could outperform the GK110, or at least match it for significantly less money while generating much less heat and consuming less power.

We had a die shrink going from gf110 to gk104 though, no shrink this time.

the original ?????????? yea that was a great card, i would deffo return to Nvidia if they released another 8800 gtx........... the original is still for sale, loads of them, how amazing !!!

Die shrink will come when Apple and Qualcomm stop squatting the production lines at TSMC (early 2015).

When Global Foundries (Samsung really) 14nm low power comes online they will go there instead and GPU industry will be safe as that process is not for big high-performance chips.

now the price has reduced it will be interesting to see how these perform vs the R290

especially with more and more gamers going 1440p and 4k

Gtx 880 g1 gaming sniper pro fatal1ty extreme oc turbo elite edition.
Add ultra combo to that and you can take my money!

In a more serious note i would like to see a capable 4k gpu this gen. In the past (8800GTX) times the jump was so huge. Now I don't see such a huge jump any more even for the expensive options. Still feels better than the Intel jumps from gen to gen. But how can these devices go for 4K? I suppose they wont focus for 4K for another year or 2. I am still on 1080p because my pc would struggle at 1440p. I am way back in the bandwagon.

Where is the power and eye candy - i understand that serious enthusiasts want best for best but this year's abomination (looking at titan black z) with it's pricing was very bad. Gone are the times where with 500 pounds you would buy a beast. Now you want 2k for something that you could make your self in half price or less. hmmm
