Compensation for card protection policy

I have had a letter sent to my Mums address from (CPP) regarding my right to claim compensation about a card protection policy I was mis-sold against my Natwest credit card.

Me being me I'm filling the form in a bit late, but so long as they get the form back by the end of this month I could be in with a chance of receiving some form of compensation.

Now the main part of the form is to give a reason why I should be considered for compensation.

I have zero details of this policy, I know I had it for a few years, but I can't remember when it was or when I decided to cancel it.

So other than the obvious 'I was mis-sold a card protection policy under the Natwest Card Protection scheme' what the hell else could I say. I'm stumped.

I've recently received my compo from NatWest. I noticed the payments on my bill and just rang them to check it out (I had no details either, no record of asking or being asked if I wanted it). They took it from there without question and it all went very smoothly, no need to fill out any forms.

Call the credit card line on 0370 333 9091 or the PPI line on 0800 015 0319

Not sure why a computer forum would be your first port of call for this.

Try HERE instead.

I had the paperwork come through a few months back but i think i might have binned it.

Just as a hint, i typed 'cpp compensation what to write' in Google and it was the first result

Just sent mine back as well, it gives you two examples on the letter! I just re-worded them slightly

Because 'General Discussion' covers more than just topics about computers perhaps?

It didn't on mine.

I've sent it off anyway with basically what I already wrote in here with a little bit extra (such as the cover it offered if it was stolen/misused wasn't needed as the bank would automatically cover it anyway).

Just give them a call and let them do it for you! I only called to question the payments and the chap on the other end of the phone immediately cancelled the policy and began the process of reimbursement without me even having to ask. Talk about taking liberties! ;) :p

I seem to remember on the one I filled in for this it said some of the reasons you could claim about halfway down on the back of the page you fill in ... at least for me it was basically a straight copy job and a cheque through a while later.

All I'll add is don't do it through a claims management company. Once you've complained to the bank and they've denied your compensation, there's an easy to fill out form provided by the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Conduct Authority depending on the type of claim.

Using a CMC just means a bunch of ambulance chasers get a cut.

Sent my missus one back a few weeks ago, got a check on Friday, only £40 something but better than nothing.

The mis-selling was based on the point that you were paying for protection which was already offered as standard.

I haven't had to do this myself, never had a CC or the like, but my understanding is you should do the following: Don't bother filling out the form or owt. Just phone NatWest and ask them to sort it. They are legally obliged to do so cost free. What you've been sent is a load of tosh by a company looking to skim a percentage of your refund.

Also, searching for "cpp natwest" brings up a few results about various scams.

Not at all a scam. CPP are the card protection company, they set aside millions because they mis-sold. It's only for card protection prior to 2006(?) that you can ring your bank and request it.

I got all my money owed back via CPP

It's however much you gave them plus interest at a generous rate. Unfortunately it isn't punitive.

Anyway, I said that the protection offered was redundant and I wanted my money back. Normally I'd think 'Buyer beware', but HSBC owns CPP and sent me a leaflet on its services after I opened an account with them. It's a straight up scam to partially cover the cost to them of providing protection that you are legally entitled to.

Considering it literally took 5 minutes to fill in, happy with the 40 quid., It's more than she paid so it's a win.

When you get the form, literally copy 1 or both of the reasons they give you on the first page word for word, nothing else is required.
