Which graphics card £50

Hello guys,

Which card will be the best for this price?

Was recommended a R7 240. Would there be much difference between 1/2GB and ddr3/ddr5 besides the price? The system only has a E6600 CPU.

The games he plays are Minecraft, Spore, Sims, Champ Manager.

Any other cards worth looking at? I am not scared of 2nd hand as long as it isn't too old. Need to buy asap as his 8800gtx will not play Minecraft anymore (something to do with a new OpenGL that the 8800gtx cannot render?) and the onboard graphics are buggered it seems (blue screens a lot when switching to onboard graphics).

2nd Hand, £50 would get a 560Ti, 650Ti, or AMD 7850. All of those are close to equivalent to ~£100 new cards like the GTX 750Ti. Albeit they are all more power hungry.

Exactly these. Overall, the 7850 is the fastest of those, the 650 Ti the slowest. Unless Minecraft really likes Nvidia that is.

The card you've chosen will be fine for those games. That cpu is so old and weak, putting a more powerful gpu with it will be mostly useless. Certainly I'd go no higher/faster than a 7750 or equivalent Nvidia card.

Minecraft is heavily CPU bound so a new graphics card might get round the issue of the 8800 being too old to render it properly, it won't really speed it up much.
