Can I also just say, GD has far more interest in this than they did in the World War One thread. Four times more posts and most of it - mine included - is a load of ****. I do in some way agree with the OP, but I can see the lighter side and the use of those responses to other 'bloody silly' threads.

If they were alive, my grandparents wouldn't be able to remember WWI, it is just really far removed from my generation. I've got respect for what it stood for and those who sacrificed their lives etc, but the anniversary doesn't really impact me.
Conversely I(we) spend a lot of time on these forums, so posting in a thread about them more than a thread about a war 100 years ago makes sense.

Ok how about this as a theoretical discussion point?

GD has some quite serious topics (two on the very main page as we speak)

You think these kinds of comments and memes have place in those topics? No of course they don't. They barely have place in any topic.

But you all claim that its just how GD is...

So again (for arguments sake) if someone was to post "poo through their letterbox" in the Zoltan memorial thread, or alternatively, the loss of a child thread, they would obviously get an infraction.

But I don't, or cant get my head around how this can be seen as any different?

What am I missing

(apart from the obvious childish sense of humour)

Because stupid and non-serious threads will get stupid and non - serious responses.

Ok...

So under this mentality the rules only apply half the time?

So people can insult each other in this thread and that's fine. (referencing being called a faget) But if it was done in another *serious* thread, it wouldn't be ok?

Just interested to know that's all.

I am sure a "poo through your letterbox" post in the loss of a child thread wouldn't go down to well. I just don't understand how its acceptable anywhere else.

Consider the stag do in one room and the funeral in another, much the same as one thread and another... you're more than capable of distinguishing one from the other.

You must not be very good in differing social situations...
