Hi all.

Today the lock to our patio doors has seemingly siezed with the door locked shut. There are no windows in this room so having the doors open is our only way of getting fresh air in the living room. This is also the only access to the garden as the back garden gate is locked.

We have reported it to our landlord who came out to try and free the lock up but too know avail.

Apparently he cannot get someone to fix it tomorrow as he is away but in my opinion this is a fire escape risk.

What would you deem a acceptable time frame for this repair?

lol fire escape risk, some places only have one door like flats.

yea I see your point tomorrow is so long to wait......

Flats are built with this in mind so have different and more througher fire protection genius.

24 hours is reasonable, if it's a standard upvc door then it should be an easy fix, certainly easy enough to get it opening, closing and locking to a point.

May not apply here but try unlocking it when it is a lot cooler, our patio door gets very stiff in hot weather such that it cannot be easily locked until late in the evening.

Thanks for pointing this out. Most flats have 1/2 hour fire doors. Mines does not. One side of the house went up we'd be trapped.

We were lucky last night went up to the bedroom to find a mirror magnifying light onto our bed and signs of smoke. Very worrying.

Doesn't take much to work that one out does it but rather than engage their brain, someone comes here to troll

was this for effect, or are you actually that stupid?
The day after your lock breaks and you moan about it being a firerisk, you almost start a fire in your own house?

Magnifing lamps and mirrors left in sunlight? Really?

i suggest you tell my wife that rather than call me stupid. ive already explained the dangers to her.

what is it with this place where people are so hostile to other forum members?? too many epeens hiding behind keyboards....

turns out the lock has disintegrated. a temporary fix has been made with a replacement lock on order.

Is it some kind of reinforced door or something? Break it down if theres a fire. A couple of days to get this fixed is acceptable.

I'm not buying this mirror rubbish either, you would only get that effect with a concave mirror and the fabric sitting in the focal point, which if it did would block the light from the mirror. Normal mirrors do not magnify anything.

It was make up mirror which is normal 1 side and magnifies om the other.

All I know is I smelt burning and saw what looked like smoke on the spot the sun was reflecting too.

A couple of days. We've had several problems with our front door and bifold doors and they usually come out in a couple of days. Not seen it as an issue.
