we booked a holiday villa in puerto calero it was described as quiet and in a very quiet location.

when we turned up they are building a villa next door to it!
all we heard was banging, grinding, wagons turning up, dust everywhere.
totally shocked and appalled by the owner not telling us about it.

we contacted the owner but she just fobbed us off, saying she thought the villa had been completed ??
apparently they have been working on it for over 18 months now, and i would say there is at least another 2 years of work left at that rate.

for the first few days we just tried to blank the noise out, then after around a week they started up on the roof and with full view into our pool area.

here is a bit from a reply from the owner.
( I really don't know what you want me to do to be honest it's not a building site the building is up and I've been told today that there is only 3 men there. That is from a neighbour who lives there all the time I can't stop people from working on their homes we do it as well)

and another quote.
(I've spoken with neighbours and they haven't complained and said there are only 3 on site and one is the owner they have had a couple of alterations but apart from that they are working mainly on the inside and they have started painting.)

not a building site lol!!
forgive me if i am wrong but a summer holiday with the family is meant to be fun and away from **** like that.

we wanted a nice quiet holiday a bit out of the way and this villa was described as just that.
also the pool leaked and had to be filled up by me daily which took hours.

i have checked the villa on the website and they have other bookings straight after our stay, so i guess they will be hit with the noise also.
they were prepping the roof for the concrete wagon, i can only imagine how loud and messy that would be.

we paid good money for this holiday and would like some compensation at the least, if anyone has been in this situation and has any ideas on what to do next we would appreciate it a lot.

here are some videos if interested.
1st video wont embed.

That's a load of balls dude. Dunno if you'll get anything though, the villa you rented was as described? The owner can't be blamed for what his neighbours get up to. Still pants.

the owner should make renters aware that they are building a new villa next door though.
its not like they are renovating or something.

Hopefully owners direct will take some action.

The T&Cs on the Owners Direct site indicate the opposite:

(2) The Provider is not, and does not become, party to any contractual relationship between the Traveller and the Owner, and does not mediate between the Traveller and the Owner in the event of any dispute arising between them. The site is a venue for Owners and Travellers to interact.

The Provider is not, and does not become, party to any contractual relationship between the Traveller and the Owner, and does not mediate between the Traveller and the Owner in the event of any dispute arising between them. The site is a venue for Owners and Travellers to interact.

Further, Travellers also acknowledge that Owners - and not the Provider - are responsible for the accuracy with which the photos depict the relevant Property.

So they wash their hands of any responsibility as they are only an property advertising site.

Rookie mistake, if you'd used your cc you'd have backup. Always use your cc in the future for purchases like this.

Doubt you'll be able to do much now

Chances of you getting money back are slim to none. Unless you want to go full legal, which I wouldn't recommend.

Where is the owner based? If they are UK resident you may have some possibility of claiming in the small claims courts as their profit and business could be argued to be here even if the villas are not. If they are based in lanzarote then will be very difficult if not impossible.

Set fire to it when you leave. Blame the builders. (notsureifserious.jpg)

I am with the owner on this one. As much as it was not nice for you, the owner does not have any responsibility to what happens next door. Perhaps they were not aware of the building site prior to you complaining.
