LG G3 **discussion**

Any advice on best contract deal for this? Looking for 250+ mins, unlimited data. Not fussed about texts or tethering. Preferably free handset and ~£30pm (not £35+).

Closest I've seen is mobiles.co.uk T-Mobile 250 minutes unlimited txt and data for £27.99pm and £49.99 for the phone.

Sorry bud, it was subject to availability, i think they sold out by Sunday night, according to the HUKD thread.

I got my G3 yesterday, a day early, seems like a beast of a phone. I love the display, no faults so far, no yellowish screen. Infact compared to my S3 at full brightness it really shines, and the whites are true-er. Camera seems a bit meh.

I managed to cancel my g watch order before it shipped, meaning i bagged the 32GB/3GB model for £344, im pretty chuffed with that!

Does anybody have any ideas why some of the touch gestures don't work when I'm usuing Nova Launcher? I can double tap to unlock the phone when using it but can't do the same to lock it. It's not the most irritating thing in the world but it's enough to stop me from using NL.

Any ideas?

Most probably because those gestures are a feature of the built in launcher rather than the underlying OS, like when the N5 came out and you could say "OK, Google" to start searching but it only worked with the stock launcher and it took a while for Apex and Nova to catch up.

Double tap to lock is an LG launcher function. You can download a screen off app from the store and assign the double tap to activate the app.

Double tap the top status bar locks the phone for me in nova.

I bought a Spigen case for my G3.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid - Metal Slate

I really like it as it has full lip protection on the front and a clear back so you can see the phones design but I haven't actually put it on yet as I love using the G3 naked lol

I will put it on soon though as going from past experience I will drop the phone at some point!

For those reading this thread I bought the circle case and didn't like it. The flappy cover doesn't stay closed and in position very well. I have bought a Spigen Slim Armor

Torn between the G3, HTC One (M8) and Xperia Z2.

I think I I have ruled out the M8, the design is lovely but I'll be using the phone more than looking at it.

So that leaves the Z2 and G3.

Points For/Against G3
+Wireless Charging
+Removable battery
+/- Screen. Size is fantastic and it is super crisp, but fear it will impact on performance and battery life all in all for a very small difference compared to a decent IPS/Other screen.
-More expensive
-Has no CM ROM support at this time. As a result will be a far cry from a stock Android experience. Will be stuck with apps/modules/other tweaks to modify the experience to how I want it.

Points For/Against Z2
+Design, all in all I think I prefer it to the G3
+Build - It's got a mostly metal and glass housing...nuff said.
+IP58 rating. I'm no adventure/outdoor crazy but knowing the device has some protection in rain/accidental water incidents is a nice pro
+Cheaper than the G3
+CM11 ROM support. Ok, CM is not 100% stable 100% of the time but for someone who much much prefers as near as stock Android experience this is a pretty big pro
+/-Standard screen resolution. Not as impressive as the G3 but will be more compatible with what's already designed for the platform, use less battery. but then again...it's not got the size and/or PPI of the G3
-Glass backing....susceptible to damage?
-Non-removable battery
-No wireless charging
-Slightly older than the G3

I don't take many pictures, nor consume lots of video/music so the small differences between the two devices here make very little odds to me. The G3 screen is fantastic for web browsing but then, so is a 1080p screen. I think the Z2 pushes out the G3 on battery life.

Such a difficult decision, even reading owner reviews and thoughts leaves me stuck! I'm sure I would love either device, and originally I was 110% decided on the G3 as soon as it was available at my carrier...not so much any more.

The G3 screen is absolutely beautiful and to be honest I still get over 16 hours from the battery and that's with me constantly streaming from Google music over a mobile network and then listening using Bluetooth headphones while I'm at work so 7 hours roughly, along with a good few texts, whatsapps, facebook etc.
The battery life really isn't an issue even with having to power such a detailed screen.
For comparison using wired headphones so no Bluetooth usage my N5 would be on it's bum by lunchtime and need plugging in, this thing won't have even hit 50%.

just got my g3, this time is nice!!!! still trying to figure out android, but it seems pretty good so far on this lg

I bought the Choetech Stadium QI charger at the same time as I got the Circle case, both work very well and charge quickly using the OEM wall charger. Only thing you need to do is be careful where you place the phone but you just need to align the phone so the camera is barely on the charger and it works well

Ended up with G3. Very happy with it so far. Came with standard and circle case. The circle case is actually much better than I thought. The way you can double tap circle area with front closed and see time /alerts / access camera and other apps (configurable) is very smart.

Knock code is awesome.

I am very pleased with the stock LG rom with Nova launcher. It's very clean and not at all cluttered. Colours don't clash and icons are all uniform in colour / style.

Customisable notification panel buttons negates the need for heavy modules / and customisation as it works out the box.

The bundled remote / universal remote app is also very very smart.

Couple of screenshots of how I have it configured so far.

Stock with desired available settings configured
Nova launcher
Gel Icon Pack
Standard Lg home Screen Apps/Widgets etc removed
