Expensive treats/purchases.

Berwick Lodge in Bristol, booked a couple of nights there and slept in possibly the most decadent quarters I've ever seen. The bed was on top of an old church pulpit, everything was just covered in high end marble or tile or soft fabrics I'd never hear about, the place was insane.

That bed looks ****ing awesome!

I'd buy a camel, one of the best things you can do with your money - show up all those numpties in the park with their piddly little great danes when you rock up with your very own, butt-kicking dromedary.

in all seriousness though i'd go with travel and experiences - spent silly amounts on our honey moon staying here: http://www.nukubati.com/ which was incredible (had the place pretty much too ourselfs as well). A weeks kitesurfing in Tariffa or going to trinidad carnival - all amazing times and totally worth the money.

Saving towards my first motorbike so that will be my treat!

I worked for the Marriott brand for 3 years so stayed in over a dozen of their hotels as part of work and leisure, lost count of nights but it's well over a hundred in that time. Diminishing returns definitely apply to hotels and I've stayed in anything from beat up Fairfield Inns in Las Vegas to JWs in Downtown Chicago and Autograph Collection hotels in London.

I enjoy fine dining going to Michelin starred restaurants. I enjoy treating myself to a holiday (this year we've been to Maldives, and going to Australia for Christmas and might sneak in a visit to Dubai before that). Other things are things like cars - we don't need a second car but I enjoy them so got myself one that I was after.

I never feel guilty because I save for them and/or I know that I can afford it - if I'm stretching myself beyond my means then I don't bother with the purchase. However they are expensive enough to appreciate the experiences (like fine dining, a nice holiday etc...) so it's not something that I would do wilfully - it is something I do because I know I get a lot of pleasure out of. :)

These things are done from time to time - so they are a treat - if we did them all the time they wouldn't be a treat, besides we couldn't afford to do it all the time!

Well I'm in the US this week for a break and that will total over 5k in flights, car and hotels and I've not gone silly money on hotels either. Add on food and other stuff and that's maybe another grand. I would not say I've gone mad, just things can get expensive.

I don't often spend a lot of money in one big go, I seem to prefer going on lots of little holidays.

treating myself to a PC overhaul for my 25th birthday In a few weeks time though

Currently trying to find excuses not to treat myself to a new Fiesta ST. It's not working :(

It's so expensive. But it's so, so pretty. So pretty.

Although rolling in ****ed at 4am on one of the nights after stumbling from the casino was potentially in bad taste. Especially since I left the remnants of a kebab knocking about.

Eaten at a few michelin star places and they're good but you don't go to be full. It's about the experience. Much like you don't go to a wine tasting session to get drunk - don't ever expect to be full from a gourmet meal.

I've paid for bottle service/ champagne in a couple of places before, that was pretty cool. Completely not worth it but it was an experience to be "that guy"

I buy a lot of expensive products but that's because I believe you should save and have quality things that will last a lifetime, not to treat myself.

We had our work christmas party at Berwick Lodge, was a lovely venue!

My 'expensive item' was a house bought 2 weeks ago, with a fair whack extra for a new heating system, fridge freezer, washing machine, etc etc.
Feeling very humbled and proud with myself about the purchase, have been working very hard and saving since last March to get to this point.

Currently not treating myself as I'm saving for a house, but as I've lost quite abit of wait over the last 18 months I keep treating myself to new clothes. More out of necessity than anything.

It's when things get mega expensive that things get ridiculous, and I feel it's more of just a for show thing. For example buying a Lambo for £100k i can understand, it's a fantastic supercar, and a piece of art. But buying a Koenigsegg for £2m? Is it really 20x better?

Similar to hotel rooms, I get the Savoy is many many leagues better than a £30/night travel lodge. Possibly even justify the £500/night, but that is probably their cheapest. When you get into like £1k/night region, is it really worth that much more? Its £1k. For a place to sleep...

For people who are spending on those things, they're not making an either/or decision. They're not weighing up a choice thinking about what else they could do with the money or what else they can buy. They just want the best.

With regards to rooms, I just don't know what "high end" expensive places can offer that makes it so much different from much cheaper places. A comfortable clean room with a clean bathroom and bed is what you really need a hotel for. I just don't get what going up to silly money can really do to change that.

Some additional things I like in a hotel room:
-Air con that actually works
-Quiet
-Nice view
-Large bed
-'Suite' facilities i.e. big space, sofas, kitchenette
-Light switches that aren't ****ing confusing and ideally all controllable from the bed
-Decent sized TV screen with Sky Sports etc
-Free internet

Not room-related but I also like a good bar for a quiet drink at the end of an evening out. One of the best was when I stayed in Stockholm as they had an Executive lounge with free food and drink which was surprising given the high cost in Sweden.

A hotel needs to be cool, clean, comfy and quiet. I think if it's in a special place it also needs a view and or a great location. As for having a big floor space or multiple rooms I feel that is lovely but not really worth spending on. I've booked a few suites over the years and frankly once you get over the wow factor when you first walk in, for 2 people they are a waste. I don't need 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dining area, 3 mini bars and some fancy cushions.

I love to eat out somewhere nice. I much prefer to do that than buy a gadget. Don't get me wrong I like my tech and all but for an experience I'd much prefer the whole doing something these days. Must be getting old. Saying that, I like my Champagne and with the arrival of the little one last week I've gone through a fair chunk and have some Krug in the fridge I'll prob consume Sat.

I just bought the Mrs an eternity ring as well as I wanted to get her something to mark the baby arriving, that she could pass down to her afterwards too. Her mum has MS and has for most her life and has never had anything to really pass down, so really wanted to do that. I'm a bit gay like that wanting to give her something like that :p

I'm hoping to book going to New York in November/December to see my mum with all 5 of us, that'll be a bloody treat...

Clean, big bed, air conditioning and my own bathroom.

Don't care for mini bar but a fridge would be handy.
Big TV is alright, as long as it has English channels, even the news!
View is optional, not really one to spend the night looking out the window. I am either there to sleep or out doing stuff.

Ignoring holidays (trip back to SA cost me a grand), the most I have ever dropped on any single thing/experience was £400 for my old tv, and £320 for my graphics card. I've eaten in quite a few fancy restaurants, but never have alcohol in them, so my bill has never been more than £150.

Holidays/car/house aside the most expesive sinlge thing I've bought was a 60" Pioneer Kuro, money well spent I feel and probably excellent value given the use.

Hotel £210 per night has been limit so far and if if I ever felt let down I'd moan like **** or leave.

Hawksmoor will be expensive next week...
