Hey guys,

Ive having to RMA my 7990 due to it making a horrid noise under load, so if it cant be repaird or replaced with another 7990, what would i get as a replacment?

It cant be a card that dose not perform as good surely?
Two r9 290's would be nice :)

They'll more than likely just put a new cooler on it/replace the fans.

Not likely, consider two 290 would value above a 7990 and faster as well. Depended on the brand...you'd lucky to get a top model 290X (i.e. Lightning, Vapour-X etc).

IMO you'd better getting that than another 7990 as replacement, as you'd get new features, more memory and better frame pacing etc.

I would always opt for the dual GPU card due to case space. Not necessarily space per-se, but motherboard spacing. Having 2 cards sat on top of another, with the heat from the bottom getting sucked into/across the top is not going to end well when the top is the master, or even as slave.

You'd need a generous motherboard to space dual cards with the air gap that they deserve.

If you plan on using any PCI-E/PCI devices, such as SSDs or Soundcards, then you'll struggle with dual cards and heatsoak.

If you're watercooling, it is all moot, but you'll still need a positive air pressure.

Its with gigabyte if that makes any difference, its under a year old as well, has anyone had a replacement card from a 7990? What was it?

Will most likely be a refund, nothing out at the moment sits in the same performance bracket, a single 290 is a fair bit slower and a pair of them a fair bit faster.

Since the mining hype died the value of 7990's is dire, you'd be lucky to break £200 after postage, so in a way if you get back what you paid for it (£350?) A year after purchase I'd chalk that up as a win, buy a 290 (with free ram and games, why wouldn't you?) And keep the change for a rainy day

Either a refurbished HD7990, yours with a new cooler, an R290 or ~£200-250.

Would love to answer that, but I don't think any form of price-checking is allowed in this part of the forum.

This type of question gets answered all the time, precedent dictates it's not a price check if he's asking how much something usually costs (as opposed to how much he should charge for something he is selling).

As far as I know, the principle is that if someone mention pricing by their accord would be fine, but if someone mention pricing in response to someone's asking it, then it would be against the rules.

Im hoping they have a new cooler to put on it or another 7990 to replace it with, unless they can offer me a decent alternative

they wont fool around with it, they'll test it first to see if it has a fault and if so, they'll replace the whole card, but they might not replace it for Coil Whine

watch out for a Mined 7990, but if you can get a good one then you're laughing...i'm looking at the 7990 right now...............a really good 7970 is quite expensive, especially if it's new so this makes the 7990 quite attractive....plus i already have a very good 7970 already.
