These quite literally look like mid-fi headphones with a mic tacked onto the side :D

Are they any different to the headphones they appear to be, apart from the fact they have a mic tacked on?

If the answer is "no", that can only be good. :)

If the AG1 isn't a pair of A700s or A900s with a mic tacked on I would eat my hat.

They look like ATH-AD700X's, but if they are then they seem a little overpriced. I doubt they are based on the 900X's, but if they are then the headset is a bargain.

They are ATH-AD700X's but with a mic, Detachable USB DAC, A different paint job and the word gaming thrown in hence the mahoosive price hike over the standard ATH-AD700X's.

I wouldn't underestimate the value of a unidirectional mic versus a clip on omnidirectional one. Heck it's part of the reason I stopped using mechanical keyboards as I wanted to keep using my Fidelio X1s for gaming but the lapel mic was picking up my keyboard way too much over skype which was quite annoying. Also for those using speakers and headphones about equally like I do it's also quite nice for cabling purposes to not have to unplug stuff continuously, as well as some hassle involved in using the same set of headphones for almost everything you do.

Sure you can get better audio quality for less but there are plenty of arguments for headsets, it's a bit tiresome hearing complaints about value for money in every single discussion of headsets.

Personally I think with headphones it comes down to personal taste, I've tried really expensive headphones and mid'ish range cans and sometimes some of the mid range ones sounded as good to me as the really high end stuff :)
