are you happy with your DSG (7sp) gearbox?

I have a Powershift Focus that has same problems at Islands - I find if you slow down on throttle early you are more likely to get the lack of response from throttle when pulling away without actually stopping. - it is annoying at times - The rest of time the box is fine. Very smooth changes.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd put CVT in the top 99% of car transmissions in use! In the past few years you've had more arriving with hybrids, but before that they were virtually unused.

I'd have agreed if you'd said 95%. Supposedly 70 something percent of cars in this county have manual gearboxes. Beyond that I'm not await of a reliable breakdown of the various auto types.

Hmm, I'm not sure. The Prius is probably the most popular CVT car, and it barely makes up 0.1% of the UK parc. It's basically the Prius and the h Lexi, and that's it. The number of other cars that are CVTs are in to minuscule numbers.

I don't know about that, a lot of smaller cars like the Toyota Yaris, Honda Jazz use CVT autos. The audi A4 did until very recently etc.
You are confusing cars available with a CVT and cars actually using them. Audi have a CVT gearbox, but it's been on very limited engine ranges and sold in negligible numbers. As with other brands, if it wasn't the standard fit it was almost never sold.

I think it could well be over 1%, but it's absolutely not 5%.

Auris and Yaris are bigger sellers than the Prius in UK. June YTD is ~9500. only 1200 Prius.

It's really good, makes my commute and driving in general a better experience for me.

Love my DSG box on the A3, don't think I will get a manual again. Granted I do miss a manual at times :)
How many of you use the Sport and Manual functions? I like to use the manual function every now and then

I rarely use the sport option, as most of my time is spent on a slow commute to town and there's no point - it just keeps the revs unnecessarily high.

I do use the manual a fair bit though. I find it a good way to drive the middle ground between auto and sport. In my 1.4 TFSI the auto will change really quickly, often running at 1,500 rpm, and there really isn't the torque and power available for anything above 4th gear (it will be in 6th at 35 mph and in 7th just under 40 mph if you're steady on the throttle). At those speeds the engine can feel laboured and just a few more revs makes it feel better.

In sport, for 2nd gear and above, the engine rarely goes below 2,750 rpm.
