Compensation for card protection policy

Don't use the form - just send to your bank with details and you'll get whatever you're owed as opposed to a reduced amount through using a pointless fly by night claims management outfit

If you cannot remember much about it how can you say it was mis sold?

The basis of this mis-selling was that they sold protection which was already offered as standard, you were paying extra for something that you already had for free.

That's in this case anyway, I know so many people claiming PPI who knew exactly what they were paying for and getting money back anyway, those are the ones that pee me off.

As indicated previous in this thread this is not what you say above.

This is not PPI, if it was you would be right.

CPP were selling protection policies for things like fraudulent transactions and card loss and were found to be mis-selling cover which you had anyway by default. The contact you had was with them and hence you deal with them to get the refund out of the money they have had to put aside to deal with such claims.

They are not a fly by night claims management company.

CPP sent (or are sending) out letters directly to everyone affected because they are obliged to by the court ruling. I don't know if there are any dodgy claims companies doing the same but the correct way to do it is to reply to a letter from CPP. I suspect they made them do it this way to help avoid a repeat of the PPI junk (also because they probably have better records of who had what)

A couple of years ago I saw this renewal on my credit card statement and have a very vague recollection of choosing it on a form when I took out a credit card as a student in 2006. I would never have taken it if I had known the truth about the limitations / pointlessness of the policy.
I complained to them back then (pre- court judgement) and they refunded me that fee but refused to accept it was missold.

Then came the court judgement and went through all the letters to vote etc. and finally they refunded me the full amount. It was something like £200 which was much more than I expected... that was a bonus :)

They also had failed to update my address details so I never received any notification of renewals - presumably they were sent to my old address which is double the dodgyness. The court ruling also mentioned this so I included it in the form but I don't think it makes any difference.

edit: clearly it took me too long to write this reply :p

So, the last 3 replies have all re-emphasised that this isn't PPI claims, I wonder who else is going to comment without reading what the compensation is actually for. ;)
