AMD don't have anything to lock down (besides the singular TressFX), case in point. I knew what you were referring to.
When you're spending millions on developing these new tools - it's not common practice to simply give them to your competitor. Can't believe I'm saying this as it's being the main point the entire time this has been the case. You can't argue that it makes good press for AMD - to market TressFX as being entirely NV friendly. That is how they get folks like yourselves on team red. Woo go them!
It's entirely more beneficial for them to do this. But when you consider Nvidia's portfolio, simply leaving the door open is - well what is the incentive? Sportsmanship is effectively what you are asking out of this.
Under the hood it's just plain stupid, the whole ordeal is.
