4k2k 30+ Inch Monitors?

39" does sound big for a desktop monitor to me...

I do most of my gaming on a 55" Plasma and I sit about 9 feet away from that. My desktop monitor is a 27" 1440p AOC and that's as far back on my desk as it can go.

Depends what you like I guess.

Don't think a 39" monitor would actually fit in my peripheral vision if I was sitting at a desk.

32" seems like a sweet spot to me on 4k desktop monitors.

My 30" Hazro needs replacing, And i will only replace it with a 32" or a 39" 4K monitor.

I use a 30" as my main monitor and now consider it the minimum acceptable size as a main desktop screen(my other display is a 27" Dell). Wouldn't touch a 4K at 30" or under. There are already quite a few cheap 4K TVs appearing(Seiki 39" was available in the UK for about £350 recently - though AFAIK it was a 30Hz), can't be too long until the monitor space catches up.

No its not tv size.

Most absurd thing i have read all year

Then you must not read much, it does not matter what RES a screen is the size is the size and that a big screen to be close to without having to move your neck all the time.

Why do you think curved monitors were thought of as a good idea?

The edges of the screen will be well out your view unless you sit at least 5 feet back.

Up to you but talking crap to others will not change it.

Buy a decent branded monitor not a cheap POS just so you can get a bigger screen.

It depends what you want from your monitor. Do you want massive real estate to multitask and program with? Yeah a 39" monitor will work fine for you just like right now 4 1080p monitors would work fine for you. Do you want to go full screen and game all the time on a 39" monitor? Then maybe it's a bit too big unless you can sit back far enough to see the whole thing at once.

what a load of rubbish I can see my 30" monitor sitting right by my desk 2.5 feet away from it and there is easily 10" inches spare before I have to turn my head.

You must have fish eyes.

Advise you go and look up some size+distance charts or do no bother as you are special and know better.

I have owned both many monitors and TV's and they will be same if same size, did you buy a crap brand so you could afford one yourself?

Looking at chart is called doing homework/research, something you could so with.

woah easy there my son I'll leave you with your wise charts. dont forget to mail your charts to all these companies planning 30"+ 4k monitors so they can adjust their plans accordingly.

1) I am not your son.

2) There is a market for large screens so they will make them but its not to sit 2-3feet from at a PC desk in your home and Windows scaling is horrid still as 4K will need a lot of the time especially websites.

3) I am pretty sure the charts that include THX measurements are not crap.

4) If you want to come across as clever as you think you are then learn some basic capitalisation/punctuation skills or get your son to type it for you.

1) You might want to do some homework/research about that ;)

2) Scaling is fine in w 8.1 plus a 39" monitor doesnt even need it. scaling problems (small text) occur in recent 4k monitors because they are too small in size for that resolution. you dont need a chart to figure that out do you?

3) THX and its certifications is a joke owned mostly by a joke company that any audio/visual enthusiast would avoid like the plague (creative labs)

4) I'm smarter than you could ever be and smart people dont waste precious energy on punctuation on random forums talking to random individuals

If any of these dont make sense to you I can put them in a chart :)

I'm too going to wait for a 32ish inch 4k monitor before I get one, would like an IPS or IGZO (or OLED). If I could get a 32" IPS or IGZO for under £800 now I would get one, but the cheapest is £1400. So I will just wait and if I get one for £600 next year then I will. Although if you took the 24" monitors, you would be able to get a 32" 5k (5120 x 2880) with the same pixel density, and with Display Port 1.3 that would be able to manage 75hz and of course with g\free-sync. A monitor like that would be nice, especially if it was an OLED, I don't think this is too far out of the question for 2016.

That's a good question which has not been answered well enough yet, apart from the marketing hype.

The edges of the screen will be well out your view unless you sit at least 5 feet back.

Isn't that irrelevant? Yes, I can see (excuse the pun) how it is not possible to see a 40'' desktop sitting up close and that you'll have to move your head, but so what? There is a large market of people who work with 2 or three screens. I work with 2 screens at work and have to constantly look right and left, never bothered me. I'd love to have 3 screens if I could. I know people who work with 6 screens (in finance) all day and they have no probs with it.

Just because you have to move your head to look at a large screen at high resolution up close does not mean it's not a good idea to buy one, or that it's not practical. And there is a decent market for it, probably the market who is willing to fork out the prices such monitors would command as well.

I find the 28'' 4k screens currently out outerly pointless, but that's just my preference. I'm waiting for a 34''-40'' monitor at 4k to come out soon that I could use (mostly for office work and browsing, not really into gaming). I'd go for Seiki right now but can't take the risk without warranty here in UK.

I need to get third 30"+ monitor. Is UP3214Q any good? I did read all the above, but I can't wait :p
