Pretty sure Tesco double locks their phones though, so give it a go and see if it works. If it doesn't, you could always unlock it or refund it.

hmmm, think i'm safer to pay the extra 20 quid and get the sim free version

I got my dad a Moto G on Tesco Mobile PAYG, that needed unlocked to work on O2

You can buy an O2 locked phone and use a Tesco SIM, but you can't buy a Tesco locked phone and use an O2 SIM.

The 520 is pretty much the base level spec. The 630 is the 520's successor, bringing a larger 4.5" screen, a slight bump in resolution and a quad-core CPU. Other than that, the two handsets are very similar. I'd favour the 625 over the 630 though. A 4.7" display, faster CPU (than the 520), LTE, camera flash, front camera and 1080p video recording. Compared against the 630 it only misses the quad-core CPU, yet it packs so much more (LTE being the real boon). It's also cheaper - £99.99 for the 625 on O2 PAYG vs £109.99 for the 630.

For me, the choice is 520 or 625. There's £30 between them, which is a lot at this price point, so I'm not sure which I'd buy. Depends if LTE, a larger screen and a front-facing camera are of significant use I guess - all three phones (the 520, 625 and 630) are close enough in computing power terms that it's not a significant part of the decision.

I'm assuming you broke your phone and are looking for a cheap replacement? Give O2 a call. They might cut you a deal on a cheap Windows Phone. It's worth noting that PAYG phones bought from O2's online shop come with £10 of PAYG credit. It wouldn't be unreasonable as an existing contract customer to ask them to knock this off.

Thought I'd chime in, as I've got a Lumia 625, which I got at the beginning of July. I was also debating the Moto G, and the Lumia 630/635.

Ultimately, I went with the Lumia 625 due to the price, as it was on sale for £99 at CPW.

I am very pleased with the phone, and although the CPU isn't as beefy at the 630, I don't feel like there's anything I can't do / play on it. For £99, unlocked, you can't go wrong :D

I've had a 625 for 7-8 months now. Brilliant phone, and even better now with the 8.1 update. And if you drive, then you'll find HERE Drive on the bigger screen invaluable.

630 would be my choice. Or a 2nd hand higher end model. 630 is better than the 625, just a little more expensive because it's a newer model.

Got a 520, cost me 70 quid in the 3 high street store, never looked back. Got a 15 per month rolling contract which I can cancel any time with unlimited data and free roaming abroad. Not bad.

625 is 4G, the 630 isn't.

Many people (like myself) don't care much for 4G at the moment, especially as it's only in certain locations. Unless you're going to be streaming large HD videos it isn't really of much benefit. The 630 is still a better device.
