Hi guys,

Bought a mirror for the downstairs toilet. The wall is plasterboard and the mirror sits on the L shaped screw in the top of this photos. Unfortunately I reckon those rawl plugs provided aren't suitable for my plasterboard wall. I do have the plugs at the bottom but I think the screw might be a tiny bit too small and short.

Clicky for image.

Any suggestions?
Cheers

Another vote for plasterboard plugs. They will work fine. Just make sure you get a decent size and get them into a tidy hole in the wall.

These should do you, no need to drill, but you might benefit from having a tiny pilot hole to start you off to make sure they go in straighter

The screw ones I have been suggested are the ones I have. Could try to find an M5 size set.

Thanks. How much weight will that take? I have two of those hangers to be used to hang a mirror weighing around 10kg? They seem quite short for a 3cm screw. I'll see if they do bigger sizes.

The alternative are wall anchors. I already have the tool and used it for the much heavier bathroom mirror which weighs in at a hefty 40kg.

If you don't have a hard wall behind the plasterboard you can drill into, then I've not seen anything better than those Rawlplug Intersets for mounting heavy objects on vertical plasterboard. I've used them all over my apartment for TV, shelving, heavy mirror, coat hooks, etc.

Use the correct size as with each step up in size you get a decent increase in weight rating.

If not using the tool to fit, then hold the lip with one hand while screwing with the other to stop it spinning up and shredding the plasterboard.

I've got a box of those from Screwfix, and they're bloody good. I'm convinced I could hang a pull-up bar off them :D

Just a quick note, I found the Rawlplug branded anchors to be better than the Screwfix unbranded ones. The stem part of the Rawlplug (the bit which is fixed and doesn't spread out) was a better match for my plasterboard thickness.
