Robin Williams found dead at home

I don't necessarily think being rich makes you happy, I think being 'comfortable' is the ideal position to be in. From experience, the amount that you have to sacrifice to become rich (discounting those who are born into it etc) can take a lot out of you and it doesn't necessarily make you any happier. I've no doubt that being poor can make you miserable, and having some money certainly can make life easier, but being obscenely rich isn't the be-all and end-all of life. I think I read somewhere recently that studies have confirmed people with an active and supportive group of friends are happiest in life and that money was further down the list than you might expect.

Anyway, back on topic, RIP Robin Williams, you will be greatly missed by all.

edit: haha Eames, glad to know I'm not the only one.

Everytime I see clips of him on the news I still cannot believe it. It's strange how for not knowing a person personally you can connect to them throughout the past few decades of entertainment. Yet at the same time it's such a shock. An unbelievable shock.

It's like a piece of your childhood has been ripped out, yet at the same time it has not. A very strange sensation. I can't think of a film or anything where he never brought so much laughter and tears throughout life. Yet some people don't seem to like him.

I really don't like it when folk say suicide is selfish, you have to be in a very dark place for whatever reason to take your own life, having hitting rock bottom once in my life through no fault of my own, would that have been selfish to take your life, no it would not:(:(

I used to think it was selfish, but after learning a bit about depression then I see its a bit more to it than that.

Agreed, my brother suffers from depression and there's no way my first thought would be 'you selfish ****' were he to commit suicide. People who say that likely have no personal or close experience or understanding of what depression really is.

I still think if the person thought about their family and how they would feel it would stop them doing it

but im not a psychologist

I hope his death raises awareness on depression and all its forms. Hopefully something good can come out from his tragic death. It's strange that the most jolly people i know in real life have taken anti depression tablets.

It's not really selfish because people aren't in a mental state where they are thinking about others most of the time.
One of the things we used to say at Samaritans was "Have you thought about who will find you?" That would often been enough to jolt people into realising the mavity of what they were about to do.

I vividly remember one person say "my children", but this one time it didn't shake them at all. It's cold and dark. But that's what it does to people, they aren't thinking rationally.

For the record, I've been a comedian and know dozen of comedians, at least half of them strike me as having issues and I'd imagine more than that actually do.

Wow really amazed to see some of comments regarding selfishness, reminds me of this meme which sadly sums up the mindset of those who don't understand depression:
