I was just thinking how cool it would be for a retailer to offer something like this. I know of one company (not Evga) that already does this but they are rather poo and really don't give you much for selling it so maybe this could be somewhere where OCUK pull ahead even further?

Probably already thought of by the staff but was just wondering if it has been thought about?

EDIT: I know after a 1000 posts and a year or is it 6 months time that members have access to the market but I was just thinking of something like Evga' step up program.

I'd imagine warranties would make it a nightmare........................

Hiya, Overclockers forum has a members market (I think it's a kind of auction thingy), I don't really know what it's like as I don't have access to it yet :)

The only other place that I know of that does hardware trade in's doesn't give you very much money at all for your kit, no matter what it is.

If the cards run fine then sell it as B-Grade? It would be the same thing.
No it will not. B-grades are usually returns which OcUK which the stocks were purchased from supplier/manufacturer, which OcUK would provide 90 days warranty, plus whatever manufacturer warranty remains; 2nd hand hardware won't have manufacturer warranty, because OcUK did not get these stock from the manufacturer or suppliers.

Yes there is a Members Market and its not an auction site. I think he's referring to trade-ins, like a popular games high-street chain do, instead of somewhere just to sell!

It would be more work than it's actual worth. I can't imagine OCUK team being able to fit this sort of service into the current business model they have. But like people have stated there is MM but you need atleast 1000 posts i believe to be able to access it.

There would be too many nasty comments from butthurt trashy people trying to trade in filthy ancient kit stinking of cigs & Lynx and getting denied. Would hurt the OcUK rep.

This sort of thing would be a logistical nightmare. I highly doubt it has any place in OcUK's business model, and even if it did I'm sure it would only be viable when trading in to them at a cut down price that you have already stated you are not satisfied with. There's a reason that trade-in services are such bad value for the person trading in, because it is an expensive business to run!

Not if only recent models were available i.e GTX 5xx/HD6xxx at the oldest.

It would still be good to have, if I could trade in a R9 290 for a upgrade at say £150 then it wouldn't be that bad considering that if I did it privately £200-£220 is the max I could get, OCUK could sell if for £230 with a 90 day guarantee. Not that fussed about the idea but thought it was worth seeing what people thought to it. You are probably right about it being to much of a logistical nightmare for it to be worth while :(

Yeah, this would just be bad for business and a nightmare to manage.

Why would anyone trade in for less than they could sell for anyway?

Hassle, selling it you are always at the mercy of someone not knowing how to work it and damaging it or scamming, just being able to get rid of it easily would be better for some people.

Lol, I have been on both ends of that recently.

Bought 2nd x79 board, that gave hassle. And sold 7770 which was told by buyer the hdmi output didn't work, only for me to stick it in an was fine...

It would be full of people trading in slightly broken hardware.

For example:
I could have a motherboard that all works aside from the USB 3.0 ports are dead.
I could 'trade in' saying it fully works as there is no way they could test every function.
OcUK gets bad name for 'selling crap'.

Would not work. No way to make it work.

This is the kind of rubbish people don't want to have to put up with, did you get the board sorted in the end?

Why couldn't they test the USB 3.0 ports?

It's just an example of the kind of thing that could be faulty. The point being made is that it would take far too long to test every function of every item to make it financially viable.

Yes they could.

I doubt they would.

Too much potential trouble for the reasons already stated.

OcUK would have to charge VAT as well making prices uncompetitive with other sources of used items though the amount could be reduced if they used a VAT margin scheme.
