Hello

I Posted here a couple of weeks ago with a injector problem i had with a Fiat 500 Diesel i had bought . Basically After Finding out 3 out of 4 injectors had tips missing and had to get injector 2 pulled out via a 12 tone pull it refused to come and smashed the rocker cover. Unfortunate the cams are part of the rocker covers on these so it made more sense to buy a new engine.

Here is the car 08 Fiat 500 1.3 Diesel Done 50k with full fiat history. Got AC,alloys, full glass sunroof bluetooth, etc

I paid £3450 for it , ok not the best colour but just bought it to fix it

Anyway Sunday night we set to take the engine out and was a east job to be fair. We Decided to take the front end off as it made life very easy to get the engine out. Took just over 3 hours and was out :)

Here is a few pics as to what a fiat 500 looks like with no engine :)

After getting it out i needed to start looking for a engine. So looked in various places ebay etc and for the love of money could not find the same engine " Fiat 1.3 mutijet" Its basically the same engine whats in a corsa/combo van. I was going to buy one out out of a corsa but i have been stung in the past with the incorrect engine. After a few days i finally found one.

Seems like it should be a good buy once the running unit is in. Even if you had to pay someone to swap it over I'd of thought it would still have been a good buy (without checking values mind)

time i put the new engine in it and sold the old one and a few other bits it will own me 4k . i think it will make a nice motor cleaned up

Aren't cars with new engines generally a pain to sell? I for one wouldn't even look at a car that's had its engine replaced, regardless of how cheap it was.

How much would you expect it to sell for or do you plan to keep it?

if no one told you how would you know ?

and if you have the history for the 'new' engine and it was fitted to a decent standard i really cant see how would it effect anything.

Looks like circa.50K 1.3 diesel Fiat 500s are worth at least £5k so you could stand to make a reasonable profit if it only owes you around 4k.

Knock off some money for the fact it's had an engine swap in someone's garage though...

Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole when there are so many others available.

Well done for giving it a go though. I was expecting a V8 though... :(

Hi

Yes i am fitting the engine myself. I would have repaired the engine but the rocker cover is damaged and its not a simple change the rocker on these engines has the cams built into them and also the Injector tips had gone missing and damaged the head so no point in trying to fix it when i a engine is cheaper. I sourced a decent engine from a fiat 500 diesel with the same millage or there abouts. The engine came with a 3 month warenety so not to worried.

Good luck and all that, but the money doesn't seem to stack up on this. I would have thought there would be plenty of 500's about for 4k.

Check all the suspension parts while you have it in bits, its all made of papier mache! :p

I seriously doubt there are plenty of non VCar fiat 500 diesels in good condition with 50k miles for £4k. Even the base models (pop by the looks of things) are more than that. £5k+ maybe, at which point he's still won a watch

Hey

Update on the fiat 500. Finally swapped all the bits from the old engine to the new engine with new genuine parts. New oil and filter and all new anti freeze and also to be even more anal i used all gen clips. Kicked up first time without any problems runs very nice and had the injectors programmed to. Off for its mot tomorrow but here is a couple of pics of my work :)
