buying our first home

That looks a nice house and nothing that would required immediate work. Those wooden floors look like they could be polished up? low ball them. See what they say.

that's the reason for looking at them, the other halves dad lives in one and its solid.

just some of the inhabitants in the area can be annoying, will give my boxing stance some work though.

just don't really want a prefab

All major building projects over a certain size have to have social housing now which is a shame.

I just worry il regret taking on the workload and grow to hate the house!

Oh you will when you're doing it, but once it's all sorted you can compare that feeling to spending a weekend in the Bahamas with a Swedish nympho.

If you get your kicks from a job well done you genuinely can't beat it.

That one linked is the minimal work one just odds and sods to tidy it up.

the one that needs the work hasn't got any pictures of the bad areas sadly

I did think this, would be nice to say this is my first home and I made it a home

viewing them all at 3 so will see which one pulls the heartstrings the most. all exciting stuff

For a standard good bathroom you are looking at £1500 (lower end) to £2000 (higher end) to pay someone else to do the whole job. I know because I had a quote last week.
No idea where you pulled £5000 from.
Bathrooms are cheaper than you think. A toilet, sink, taps and bath start from around £200-250 for a cheap and nasty suite. Do all the work yourself and even with tiles it will come in under £1000.
Kitchens however are £££.

Bathrooms are hugely variable - my small bathroom (approx 2.5m x 2.5m) is going to cost

£500 - digital shower
£200 - vanity unit
£50 - toilet
£50 - taps
£100 - mirror cabinet
£100 - lighting
£100 - shower tray
£250 - shower cubicle

That's without tiles, flooring, any plastering, towel rail etc. Sure you can do it cheap, but cheap is very often nasty, and who wants nasty?

Just got back from the viewings and the one that needs the work just felt right!

the list I have so far of things to be done

carpet/flooring throughout
paint/wallpaper throughout
skimming of all rooms (know a trader £100 a room)
new boiler
2 new roof tiles
new bathroom suite
skip
removal of fire place
new front door
new kitchen work top
washing machine
fridge/freezer
removal of asbestos garage
removal of partition wall in bathroom

So our offer got accepted on the house last week. Now we play the waiting game

having a builder friend go round the house to get some rough quotes so we can figure our some more accurate costings.

its all exciting, just feels a bit naff when its all just waiting for people to shuffle papers between them

So we are still waiting, losing the will to live now.

The previous owners split, he did not know she took out a loan on the property and she is now refusing to pay it (the house is all in his name) so we can't move forward with the house purchase everything is ready to go but they are squabbling like little children and wont put the money into holding.

mean while all our stuff is in storage and we are living apart at our parents house.

I hate buying houses
