Hi guys,

So everybody keeps raving on about LED / SMD bulbs ....but I am a bit lost.

We have 10 Halogen Spot Lights in the kitchen which are MR16 type and have each light has 12v Transformer powering it ...these are around 15 years old.

So the question is ...can I get away with just changing the bulbs?

Thanks

Few different wattages available but they all seem to be 12v, so I'd imagine just plug the new bulbs in.

LEDHut is pretty decent and they haev a good rep, also they often do large discounts upto 20% and cashback is often available at upto 20% also, I manager to get 20% off and 20% cashback on my last order which was almost 200 so a decent saving :)

That's exactly what I need then! :)

Thanks

That simply LED quote states at the bottom that it's range of MR16 LED bulbs will work with existing drivers, but for the cost of a driver £7 or something, i'd not bother, or change to GU10 units instead and ditch the external driver.

I just called them and they advised me that their MR16 LED bulbs will work with 'most' transformers but not all.

They suggested that I just buy the GU10 lamp holders and cut the transformer out all together?

Yep, I've fitted 100's of them and their dimmable counterparts - http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LTSMD5WW.html
I've had one failed one but even that could've simply been a transport issue.
The warm white colour & light output is spot on too, there may well be better ones available but I couldn't recommend anything I didn't know was up to the job :)
