I'm a nurse as some of you know, this means working unsocial hours, I need to park onsite as pubic transport doesn't operate at the times I would need it too.

Last year I paid £120 to park on site, I have just had an email telling me its going up to £330 per year. Its just a field with a barrier.

also cheers NHS....just one way of boosting morale hey?

So how much do you pay?

Wow, what a rip-off. It's not like nurses are paid too much either. That sucks :(

It's free for me, but I have a horrific stretch of Belgian Pavé to contend with. I swear it breaks my car :(

Not specifically on site, but I park at the train station to come down to work for the week. Costs £10 a night = £30 a week.

So well over a grand for the year.

£9 per day.

City centre parking for you!!

I'd have to get 2 trains with a 20 minute walk otherwise. Despite only living a 15 minute drive from work.

I too am a Nurse and to park on site central Newcastle is £14 per day as I work long shifts. It's a private company so no discount for staff - apparently is the most expensive car park outside of London!

I work at a hospital too. We have free parking, but Stafford's tourists take the **** and use that for parking and take the short cut into town for the day, avoiding the council-run car parks and their fees. Our hospital grounds become full enough to make it difficult for our staff to use it legitimately. We did think about using an ID system so that only staff can park, but with it being a psychiatric hospital, you have to consider the patients too who could be here for weeks and months on a section.

I stayed in a hotel in Brighton for work and it was about £25 a night for parking.

Work loved us all when we added 7 days to our expenses at the end of the week.

If you need to drive in order to get to work (see unsociable hours), then you've just been given a £200 paycut. Worse if the cost comes out of your net pay rather than gross.

That doesn't seem a very reasonable change in contract - perhaps worth banding together with the other people who are affected and talking to a solicitor. Or a union I suppose.

edit: I don't pay to park at work. It's hard to imagine believing that paying to use their car park is reasonable :(

Everywhere I've ever worked parking has always been free, although one site had a waiting list for a pass (so I cycled mainly) and one didn't have enough spaces (so I car shared and got in early). Last site I worked at had plenty of spaces - still cycled in mainly though, as it was quicker on the bike.

Unless his contract guarantees a parking spot for free or £x amount then that wont fly.

Employers are under no obligation to provide any car parking for staff.

NHS parking prices are atrocious for staff. Most hospitals I've been to have been around £10-20 per week for staff to be able to park on site. When I was on my placement in barnsley, none of the lab staff parked at the hospital as it cost £75 per month to do so, so the side streets around the hospital were just populated with cars. Some staff even rented locals driveways out as it was cheaper to do so!

Free, I swing into the same space most days, saves time locating the car at home time plus I like to be out of the way in order to have a little kip at lunchtime :-)
