S3 MK2, R32 MKV or 130i

Cool will check it out

Was look at sport back originally, so that's 08/09 I think.

Re 3 door, 2nd face lift

Just carefully looking as seen a few 4motion R golfs at around £18k which I think is my limit

Black leather a must I think as not 100% on two tone ones

Test drive a r32 tomorrow

With hopefully house purchase I'll be circa 1 mile from work so will be walking etc

I've recently purchased an S3. Very solid, fast and capable cruiser.
Not really 'fun' or chuckable. It just grips and goes like stink*

*turbo boost makes it seem faster than it is, but it's not slow.

With the new S3 out, the used models will drop in price by the end of the year. Though for a decent one you should stretch the budget a bit. The R32 is a great car but they're old now and expensive to run compared to a Gti.

Yup my only concern re the R32 as the deals are asking a lot of ££

Sorry yes was looking at the sport back as want some practicality, although it's just my wife and I so maybe a 3 door could get a closer look.

R32's aren't that much more to run. Sure post March 2006 R32's are in the higher tax band and not quite as efficient on fuel but it's not that much of a gap! On a good run you'll still be hitting low 30's.

I do agree that they are getting on a bit now and they do still command quite a high price for what they are, but I love the engine and exhaust note so much :) I paid 12K for mine around 2 years ago now and I'm sure I could still sell it for that now!

Drove the R32 and the mpg figures looked ok. I can see what people mean re heavy and a nice cruiser. The noise in the cabin wasn't loud and ride wise it was so much more composed than my 123d

Having owned a 130i for three years, and driven both the R32 and S3 extensively, I'd have to go for the 130i. Fun, fun, fun, sublime engine noise, cheaper tax, tyres and petrol, and bombproof reliability. R32 and S3 are marginally quicker point to point due to 4WD, but you won't have a smile on your face whilst doing so. :-)

Finding an 08 / 58 manual 130i has led me to give up and look at the R32.

Had my 123d valued, lower than I want, so may look to sell privately, but never sold a car privately...

My 130i LE is for sale, nearly hitting 100k which seems to put people off, I might end up keeping it as it drives spot on and needs nothing doing, apart from a decent machine polish which I might get done.

I'm a bit out of touch with R32's (used to be a big fan) but I'd say that is overpriced. Not sure what they mean by 'anthracite leather upholstery' - the choice was either standard grey leather or darker grey Recaros!

Sadly I'm also after sub 60k - sorry.

Yes I thought it was over priced too.

Cost to change is circa £5k don't think so

I have pics and dark grey leather

Nice say nav, but Bluetooth is aftermarket

Hands down I would've gone for a 130i but they just command too much on the continent for the late models with a spec worth living with.

I like my S3, don't get me wrong, but it isn't fun.
