Fair enough, didn't read that you would go for the Sportback.I like the S3 but doubt will find a 5 door facelift for less than £15k
With the new S3 out, the used models will drop in price by the end of the year. Though for a decent one you should stretch the budget a bit. The R32 is a great car but they're old now and expensive to run compared to a Gti.

R32's aren't that much more to run. Sure post March 2006 R32's are in the higher tax band and not quite as efficient on fuel but it's not that much of a gap! On a good run you'll still be hitting low 30's.
I do agree that they are getting on a bit now and they do still command quite a high price for what they are, but I love the engine and exhaust note so muchI paid 12K for mine around 2 years ago now and I'm sure I could still sell it for that now!
Having owned a 130i for three years, and driven both the R32 and S3 extensively, I'd have to go for the 130i. Fun, fun, fun, sublime engine noise, cheaper tax, tyres and petrol, and bombproof reliability. R32 and S3 are marginally quicker point to point due to 4WD, but you won't have a smile on your face whilst doing so.![]()
Yup my only concern re the R32 as the deals are asking a lot of ££

Sorry yes was looking at the sport back as want some practicality, although it's just my wife and I so maybe a 3 door could get a closer look.
