i7 860 to i7 4790 Worth it ?

Depends on what you use your computer for.

Well i am starting to get a little frustrated by how slow the 860 is but it has been the best cpu i have ever had and i looked at Anantech's bench and the 4790 is 50% faster ! so time to upgrade i think !
I was going to wait for ddr4 but the prices seem too much and mainstream is too far away ~

I went from a i7 950 @ 3.8 ghz (paired with a r9 290) to a 4790k with the 290 obviously.

The major difference in games I found was a bit better maximums but far better minimums. Overall the experience is a lot smoother.

I assume you play games? If so what graphics card do you have? You would probably see more benefit from upgrading your graphics card and overclocking your CPU to an inch of its life :D

I have a gigabyte 280x windforce which is great but the motherboard is a very poor overclocker as i have tried and gave up ! so upgrading is the easier option :D

Ok the Pc is used for Gaming and Encoding and is near 5 years old ! And the board is a Poor overclocker ! So why not ?

No need to shout dude...

Depending on what you are using and encoding to, you might get better performance from upgrading your GPU to something with some mean CUDA skills.

How much money do you want / have to spend?

No shouting bud ! but budget is what is required to be happy ;)

If your 860 is overclocked there is no need to upgrade, your 280X will be a bottleneck in games before your processor will be.

But for encoding and other cpu intensive applications then of course a newer setup will help.

A faster gpu for gaming and maybe an ssd would be more beneficial if you don't already have one.

Yes, i went from a 920 to 4790K OC to 4.7 and the change is HUGE!

Not for gaming with a 280X it wouldn't be, unless your running at a low resolution and with no v-sync.

What are you running to have these huge gains, other than benchmarks? And with what graphics card?
