If I may interject here please?
I like to call myself an Extreme enthusiast, we you all know I am, but I wish to be a little sceptic on the whole upgrade process.
As a Yorkshireman I have to tell it how it is, much of this upgrading malarky is one-upmanship to have a more powerful pc than another. The question is this.. DOES it do what you want it to do right now? If yes hold off upgrading if no then upgrade.
I have both a 4970k AND a 3960x 2011 pin cpu and t obe honest i would never have had the latter if I didnt know a dude whom used to work for Foxconn (Cheers Andrew Ouyang ) as FAE, he owed me a favour and so he sent this CPU off to me. But even free the ONLY way I can justify having a chip like this is that the X is really higher binned chip than the K series (overclocking ) and I run and use 3DS MAX on a regular basis.
To be honest I am yet to mess with socket 1150 overclocking as I went straight from X58 to X79 and i have been IMPRESSED with the longevity of the aforementioned X series of system boards.
Having said all of the above, could i justify spending my heard-earned money on a 2011-3PIN (X99) CPU? and DDR 4? Not with xpower 2 mobo and a 3960x cpu no way.
I believe the gains will not be worth it for around another YEAR and frankly upgrading to keep up 'with the Jones's' bores me
My apologies on the little rant there, have fun
