Are you overweight?

i don't measure obesity by weight, everybody is different, normal weight for one person looks under/overweight on another of the same size

just look in a mirror and if you look ok then you're ok

i'm 42" waist, i'd love to get down to 36" just for a better range of clothes

Those sort of drinks aren't really that helpful, you might as well just prepare your own food which will be far more nutritious. It's a bit of a lackadaisical approach to nutrition and food to rely on a pretty poor drink to provide you with balanced nutrition as an excuse to not bother eating properly.

If exercise and sport isn't your bag then there are other options and choices you can make. :)

I was trying not to delve to closely into my own personal situation. I take these drinks not because of my "a lackadaisical approach to nutrition" I take these drinks on the advice of my dietician and because they are a consistency I can swallow. I cannot and never will be able to swallow solid food, in fact my own saliva gives me problems. But I did try preparing my own liquid diet but because of my lack of knowledge in micro nutrients and the like I became ill as I was not receiving the necessary amounts of these. These 'poor' drinks as you call them provide me with the necessary nutrients to keep me alive. Now I doubt, with all it's faults, the NHS would provide a nutritionally inadequate foodstuff, though I may well be wrong.

If you have any suggestions on better 'balanced nutritional liquids' please advise and I will take them up with my dietician.

I'm a little overweight. 15st 8, but I'm 6'4" and incidentally signed up for the gym yesterday as I've put on about a stone in the last 18 months since leaving my job. My diet hasn't changed, and in fact I've started properly exercising (running) for the first time in the last year and a half, but since I quit my job my level of daily activity has plummeted causing the weigh to increase slightly.

I didn't realise you had a medical condition - it initially sounded as though you were taking one of these drinks as a "magic bullet" apologies that I misconstrued your point, and I do not expect you to share personal issues which you are not comfortable discussing in public. :)

I'm sure they do provide you with nutrients, but I would still personally try and create my own. However, I'm not going to offer you advice as this is clearly a medical issue which is not something we can discuss on the forums. :)

I was getting to the point where I was unhappy with how I look

6'1 15.5 stone

still the same weight but iv lost around 1.5-2 inches off my waist and gained a noticeable amount of muscle, feel so much better and have a lot more energy after cutting the chocolate out and eating slightly better.
I'm no saint when it comes to eating, I still eat stuff I shouldn't. But cutting down on junk food/ takeaways has made a huge difference

According to my BMI (33.4), I'm obese. However, I go to the gym every other day, eat healthily and have a 32" waist. So I'd say I'm fine.

BMI is definitely useless for anybody who has above average muscle mass

I have to agree. The world worries far too much about how much they weigh rather than whether or not they are healthy. If you want to become an aesthetic body builder, then great, worry about hitting your macros and your body fat percentage. If you're worried about being unhealthy, look in a mirror.

Just going to take minute to hate on fad dieting :D Sure you can go on a 9-day cleanse and lose tons of weight! That's great! But the first weight to go is water weight(will you will put straight back on). Fad diets are a complete waste of time. The reason that you're overweight is because you are taking in more calories than you are burning in the day. So as soon as you go back to your 'normal' eating habits you will obviously put the weight straight back on. If you want to be healthy then being a tiny bit overweight probably isn't doing you any harm.

Being 'overweight' is all a matter of perspective anyway. Just look at Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (The Mountain from Game of Thrones). Wikipedia says he currently weighs 190kg. But he can deadlift almost 1000lbs. His BMI would not tell him this.

Apologies for off topic post, but this is a very interesting watch.

It's a myth, go through the body stats of many athletes, sports people, who have very little body fat % you will find that the majority of them are in the healthy range of BMI.

There are exceptions body builders for example, but using them as a justification for being fat is silly.

Yep, I'm a good few stone overweight., but also a good few stone lighter than I used to be.

I got to the point at ~ 18 stone where I just had to do something about it. I suffer from chronic depression and anxiety, and it was all becoming too much for me. A cycle of self hatred which led to almost drinking myself to death.

So, I quit smoking and started eating healthier at the same time as the wife; joined the gym and got to work. All of our meals are now freshly cooked with proper ingredients (by me; I'm the chef of the house), and I do still snack on the odd crap without worrying about it.

She lost 5 stone, I lost almost 3. Since then, though, my weight has gone up and down. At the moment I'm back to a stone heaver than my lowest weight has been, but we've also both been partaking in plyometric and weight training, which has upped my fitness levels incredibly. Built a decent amount of muscle, too. I used to suffer from shinsplints quite regularly when walking, sleep apnea at night, rashing/soreness from thighs rubbing together etc. etc. Now, nothing. Same with gout -- used to get attacks rather frequently. Haven't had one in over a year now.

I do struggle with a mental dependency on alcohol, still, which accounts for much of my failure to keep consistent losses on the go. If I hadn't changed just about everything else in my lifestyle the way I did, I'd be a few steps closer to the grave by now, that's for certain. Just the booze to beat, which is more of a struggle than it should be, to be honest.

I'm set for redundancy at the end of September, so once that happens and I'm working on developing my own business I'm going to be devoting a few hours a day to fitness, and will be forced to eat even better on a budget. So, even if my business fails and I'm forced to go back to working for "the man", I intend to make a success of my own fitness and appearance. Both that AND the business would be ideal, of course. :D Won't be able to afford to drink (the wife would have my head), so that's something I'm going to have to power through. There's no other option.

Just about 3-4 stone to go until I'm happy, I reckon.

False.

His BMI figure is around 40 something, but I am curious as to what his body fat % figure is.

In my opinion for measuring "health" the body fat percentage tells a bigger story.

He's got abs when he's in shape for the WSM so not that high.

Green on the BMI (just about), 32/34" waist & but could do with trimming down a little bit.

I don't have that much excess fat around my body (hardly any on my arms/legs/face) but the fat I do have does congregate in one place (around the gut) so I'll have to trim right down to get that fully flat.

Ditching the drive & walking to the train station has helped a fair bit (as now I hit my 10,000 steps a day) along with the gym 3 to 5 times a week. Working in an office has made exercise a mandatory requirement for me to maintain my weight with all the socialising & beer drinking I do!.
