Just doing a small amount of reading on probably a hugely overlooked topic my new build is running win 7 out of choice I dislike windows 8 hugely .
Im looking at the direct x environment obviously dirct x 12 should be out soonish but im reading this could be reserved for win 9 so whats left for the rest of us old dogs that refuse to change ? I have the dx 11 atm but im starting to think now is a prime time to change to amds mantle ?
Thoughts please !

Change??

There is no changing between directX and Mantle.. Do you know what Mantle is?

Bascially its a new API developed by AMD... developers can if they wish choose to wright there games with both DirectX and Mantle in mind and make use of the newer technologies in Mantle... just because a game is mantle does not mean it does not work on DirectX.. plus mantle is still in beta...

To use Mantle you need a newer AMD graphics card that supports it and a game with mantle option... so far the only mainstream games that support mantle are BF4, THief and Star Swarm...

DirectX twelve and games that will use it are a long time off yet... maybe at least another year.. it wont be Windows 9 only... windows 9 is based off the same tech as windows 8 from early reports .. its bascially windows 8 done right..

Mantle will never have the widespread support that DirectX has, at best it will remain an optional API for a small number of games.

ah confusion my end I thught mantle was AMD replacement for direct x

You aren't wrong, the only problem is that games have to be specifically coded for Mantle, it isn't just a switch that can be flipped. And there's only a couple of games out right now which support it.
