Your best WWII (or even WWI) games?

Best WWII tactical shooter Ive ever played is Combat Mission. Full battalion sized engagements both historical and a-historical. Very dynamic, and incredibly realistic. But it might be too hardcore, and it certainly isn't a FPS although it is a 1:1 military simulator.

In terms of memories as they were amongst the first games I've ever played has to be Medal of Honour: Allied Assault and Return to Castle Wolfenstein! To anyone new to gaming they may not be as good nowadays as times have certainly moved on in 12 years! Medal of Honour: Airborne is worth an honourable mention, was a complete mess at release from what I remember to a point I couldn't get it to run on my machine and poorly supported by EA so died a premature death online. I quite liked Pacific Assault but for Japanese WWII setting, Call of Duty: World at War is probably a better choice nowadays.

Out of the COD series I still like the second one and WaW and for ultimately sneaky/James Bond/solo fun Hidden and Dangerous games were amazing! Never bothered with a team, always went into sneaky mode as one man army :D Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is one game I stopped half way through a few years back and never got to finish so hoping for a sale in the near future as I enjoyed it a lot!

Company of Heroes is what got me into strategy games, was completely ahead of its time when released.

Call of Duty and Sniper Elite II are my favourites.

I've got SEv3 but I'm not that keen at the moment. Very buggy I found when I played it.

And I'm still addicted to Loadout!

re-release cod 1 or uo Full HD the maps so epic brecourt, hurtgen, dawnville, caretan, neuville just maps after maps well designed great simple gameplay that worked.

would be a massive hit on pc for little work.

I spent many hours on Commandos 2. It was surprisingly satisfying to clear a level.

Most recent favourite is definately Sniper Elite V2 and then MoH Airborne. I played a tiny bit of the previous Wolfenstein but didn't really like it.

Im gonna say Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway cos i thought it was pretty damn good. Its not my favourite but thought it deserved a mention

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II.

This is one of my favourite games of all time. Love everything about it.

Currently trying to get to grips with Hearts of Iron 3, after having owned it for the best part a 4 years. Near vertical learning curve. EU3 was a piece of **** in comparison.

RTCW: Enemy Territory no other online experience has came close.

BF1942: Desert Combat.

COD 1 and United Offensive.

.....and the one game I still play to this day CoH.

Would War Thunder creep into this category?

MOHAA and the original CoD both broke amazing ground in many different areas. Current gen deserves a decent WW2 shooter. Too many people are afraid of setting a game before present day.

Cod 2 and wow
Brothers in arms 2 was very good.

Didn't like sniper v2 at all, repetitive and boring (coop better tho)
