AMD Tonga arrives in August, replaces Tahiti PRO

Pointless getting the Lightnings now. Keep your 2x 290P's and either add another or wait.............I'd wait. ;)

it depends how much more powerful next years cards are........ because if not by much, then the current crossfire lightnings might be best but dont buy now, buy after the next cards come out and prices on the lightnings drop.

next years cards sound exciting, but this MSI Lightning is really sexy............ but from the vid the voltage is very sensative when overclocking, previous Lightnings have been like this too

Personally I'm not convinced this event is about Tonga at all. It could be anything. In fact Tonga would not warrant such an event.

Can you imagine AMD celebrating "30 years of [someone else's] graphics HIStory" with a mid-range card? One which is probably less powerful than an existing card it replaces? What an anti-climax that would be!

AMD would be shooting themselves in the foot if that were all they had. No, I don't think this event is about Tonga.

Could be right, it might be the clocked version of the 290X, just so they can say they have the fastest single GPU for a few weeks. :D

(AMD would be shooting themselves in the foot if that were all they had.) That would be nothing new. :p

So now Tonga is out and it is the first PI/Pirate Islands card. This new line brings advances so great that AMD doesn’t actually want to tell you about them. The tech under the hood, if it is actually real or new, may actually be worth a damn but don’t take our word for it because we have no way to tell. Sadly that seems to be the way semiconductor companies want to talk about things now, the tech isn’t worth briefing press on anymore.
