What have you done to your car today?

Yeah snapped springs do happen, I've come across it on a couple of meganes as well as my old corsa. Generally speaking it's best to replace both springs on an axle at the same time.

Serviced mine this afternoon, well, oil, filter and pollen filter at least. Doesn't need fuel yet, couldn't get an air filter and it looks practically new so it can wait until next service!

Clayed and waxed my ITR some time ago forgot to post how epic it looked for about 16 hours when it started raining :/

Yesterday, but I installed some fun....

The video goes:
Off (key out)
On (key in)
On (engine on)
Lights on

Was testing my wiring basically and thought it would prove vaguely interesting to other Golf people so videoed testing it.
Just waiting on the pressure sender (should arrive sometime next week) so I can have a proper reading. Without it the gauge just reads max which I guess would worry some people if they didn't know the sender wasn't wired in. :p

Took the EGR valve off and cleaned it in the hope that it would cure the slight hesitation I get when holding the same revs anywhere between 1500-2000RPM, but I don't think cleaning the EGR valve will cure it. There really wasn't that much soot built up in there considering the car has done 100,000 miles now, there was a solid piece of soot sat on the face of the valve which wouldn't have been helping things, but it's another thing I wanted to do checked off my list. Next up is the MAF which I have a nagging feeling may be the actual problem, but I'll run the car for a week first to see if there's any difference.

fitted black grills and new white led markers for the halo lights on the X6. Looks much better now IMO. Pic in the BMW thread.

Knackered my gearbox :o

Coming back from Japfest2 yesterday, and the Starlet's 5th gear started popping out constantly. It had popped out several times before over the past two weeks randomly, but yesterday I had to do the last 40 mins of driving with my hand on the gearstick keeping it in 5th. Fun(!)

On the hunt for a decent 2nd-hand gearbox now. The question is, do i go stupid and get one with an LSD in it or not :D

Defo get an LSD, the one in my fez has made a massive difference.

Don't have that amount of money to spend though. May just get a standard Corolla 5-speed on (shorter ratios than the Starlet box), and save up for an LSD in the future. It's not like I'm pushing big power anyway, it's only at 172 (according to powerstation).

Hotwired the fuel pump, no real idea if it needed it but in the future i intend to upgrade so thought may as well do it sooner rather than later!

Spent longer than I should have changing out a rear bulb on the 'teg. Took 10 minutes before I realised I kept unplugging the indicator rather than the brake light. *sigh*

May golf.. engine bay prep started.. painted drivers side turret. loads to do before engine install!

Got yet another sidewall puncture FFS from a pothole I think :( Stopped at Tescos and when I got out heard the hissing of my 2nd sidewall puncture in 2 months!

I still had 6mm of tread left on this one too, bloody Oxfordshire's stupid sodding roads.

Found first signs of rust! Just below the front pas side wing trim strip. It's a good thing though as I've been wanting to get that wing resprayed for a while as I have 2 stone chips that were seen to with touch up pen but as they are on a flat area of the wing the touched up bits look naff to me.

Respray and blend @ £120+VAT...

No point, get a new wing

Agreed. Once they start rusting, there's not much point fixing them as they rust like hell on the inner lips.

If it's not too bad and you don't fancy paying the £140ish quid for an OEM one, you might be able to get away with treating the rust and hammerite/rust proofing the old one - depends how bad it is on the inside.

That's at least £60 then the labour to fit it, respray it. No need for all that when it's going to be sanded down and resprayed without the additional labour and get the same result.

Edit*
I should add there's no rust by the lips or anywhere else, it's just rust from stone chips showing up slightly below that plastic trim bit!

Not really on the car itself, but tonight finished tidying my workbench ready to crack on with my turbo tomorrow. It was a right state thanks to the use of a grinder, swarf everywhere!

Will hopefully have it fitted this weekend. My old turbo is now in a very poor state, whines loudly as it spools up and smokes like a train.

Ahh - how old is the wing though? You'd hate to get the work done, then look at it after winter and the lip is starting to go

Put a first coat of Yellow on my rear calipers last night. Going to finish them off this weekend and do the fronts as well. Looks much better than rust coloured.
