FYC were formed out of another famous band called The Beat and they looked all over the World (probably here and USA) for the right singer to join them but had no luck. One night they were in a pub in the Midlands, Roland Gift starting singing and they had found their man. Wiki tells a slightly different story but I remember the news piece they did on Central News at the time and they were sitting in the pub where they found him.

thought of another one although it doesn't quite fit completely with the description :)
