Hi all,

I recently switched on my PC and just at the windows logo on startup I see a blue screen of death and it restarts in windows repair mode which says it can't resolve the issue.

My office space was fairly dusty so I assumes that was the issue but after a good cleanup of surrounding area and removal of dust inside PC I am still having the same problem.

Any ideas?

Do you know if it was installed in AHCI or IDE mode?

I've had a few PC's recently revert to the alternate setting which causes a blue screen on initial boot. I'd check that first... if it's changed then switch it back and see if that makes a difference.

It was on ACHI and I changed it to IDE in bios but it just went blank then restarted. So I put it back.

Must have been in AHCI originally then - TBH that's the ideal setting anyway so we'll have another think. Have you recently installed any new hardware or done any updates?

Sometimes driver changes can cause issues including bluescreens on startup.

Have you tried pressing F8 on startup then selecting either 'Safe mode' or 'Last known good configuration' to see if that gives you any more success getting into windows?

Also try ( as I am not sure if this works in windows 7 ) holding down the left shift key as you system is booting until if it manages it you get into windows.

Thanks for the replies. Haven't installed anything. Safe mode and last known good configuration won't work :-(

Very strange. :( Have you tried Anthony's shift key suggestion?

Beyond that I'd start considering hardware issues or conflicts and simplify the install a little. Unplug any non essential HDD's and try again, then if you still have no luck possibly even pull the GPU and use the onboard one built into the 2500K.

If all of that is attempted with no success and you have another functional windows PC and suitable HDD caddy you could possibly plug the Sammy SSD in and do a drive check and repair using windows. Have done that in the past and managed to get drives booting again.

I would definitely try and put it back to AHCI.
Have had a few of these problems in the past after a BIOS update and the SATA mode reverted back to IDE giving me errors on boot.

This has already been done in post #5.

Do you have a windows disc to try and repair using that?
Is a fresh install out of scope?

reset bios to default (NO OVERCLOCKS)
set pci to AHCI
boot with just one stick of ram(no boot try different stick).

i had a problem like that turned out to be a bad stick of ram

I'd try booting a live Lnux CD or usb stick to prove that the hardware is working ok. If it is, looks like Windows reinstall time...
