Honeymoon

Thing is June, July, Aug & Sept see's 10inches of rain, whereas the remaining months only see 2inches per month.. so its a big difference. Plus temps are a LOT hotter, with high humidity.

If it was anytime between early Nov to end of April, there's nowhere in the world that has finer weather that time of yr... The downside to us folk living in the tropics, is that the summers are hot, humid and wet, and yep, a hurricane could literally wipe everything out.

It's true but my point was more that the rain shouldn't be a big deal. As I said our honeymoon in Maui it rained a lot, but that is what happens in a rainforest so was expected. A rainy morning just meant staying in bed....

Give Jai a call here: http://travellab.co.uk/

He sorted out our honeymoon - and you can even create a "gift list" if you don't want a gift list to your guests, they can just contribute to something for your honeymoon.

He was able to tweak all our requirements into a really affordable deal. From doing it myself to having him sort me out I saved over £1k. Worth it, and less hassle too.

Good stuff, thanks. Will certainly give them a look.

Bit puzzled on location now, we had our hearts set on the Caribbean really. A girl I work with has been 3 times in August (Cuba, Dominican Republic and Barbados) and said she hasn't seen any silly rain. Is it really too much of a risk?

Often that is the cheapest way.
I tend to use sites like booking.com, hotels.com and kayak.com but I always check the company website before booking. Sometimes the company website is cheaper than than the travel website, very rarely will something like hotels.com be cheaper.

Same goes for flights, you can use whatever website you want but it is always worth going straight to the airline because often sites like orbitz, ebooker etc add on some commission.

EDIT: It is also sometimes worth calling up a hotel and seeing what price they can give you. If the hotel isn't expected to be near capacity then you can sometimes talk them down to giving you a god deal. Ultimately the hotel want to run close to capacity as possible so are willing to accept lower prices to achieve that, and also prefer not to go through a travel website like hotels.com which presumably take some % commission. I haven't done this often but in the past I have talked the manager into giving me a $200 a night room for under $100

I've almost always found the opposite, Booking.com is almost always cheaper than booking direct with the hotel (sometimes even half the price or more).

The same with flights, usually a search on skyscanner or kayak will come up with deals from the likes of opodo, ebookers and last-minute that are cheaper than going through the airline, for exactly the same flights. Obviously budget airlines are different, but then you usually can't book through other sites anyway. I think on all but one BA/Qatar/Delta etc. flights I've booked in the last few years only once has booking through the airlines website been the cheapest deal (and that was an open jaw ticket to Oz with BA). It's annoying as I would rather book direct and cut out the middle man/website but a saving of 10-20% is too much to pass over on an expensive flight.

Kayak and skyscanner will give a good indication of prices from all the travel sites and the official fare anyway though so it's pretty easy to work out where is cheapest.

OP also have a look at flight/hotel deals with established companies, most of the time they are cheaper than booking flights and hotel seperately, unfortunately you don't get the flexibility. It may be worth seeing if you can get a holiday from NY to the Caribbean and then book a return flight to NY and the hotel there yourself.

When you say rain every day though what I assume you actually mean is it rains for an hour or two each day and then is sunny for the rest of the time. At least that's what happens in Costa Rica in August (not quite Caribbean islands but has a Caribbean coast) and in other tropical places I've been to in the wet season.

Personally I've started to prefer going to the tropics in the wet season as there are less people and the rain is a nice relief from the incessent sun. Then again I don't like sunbathing much and prefer being active (hiking/kayaking/wildlife spotting etc.)

Dont think ive ever booked a package holiday in my life.

Whenever we book anywhere we usually book separate flights (using Skyscanner and/or Kayak to get an idea of best prices/airlines etc) and hotels (through Hotels.com to take advantage of their Welcome Rewards scheme and 5-10% Quidco cashback).

Never failed us!

Good tip on the incognito mode/clearing cookies - have seen this work several times and to be honest I think its disgusting that they are allowed to get away with it. Ive only ever seen it happen with flight prices, hotels seem to stay the same and with Hotels.com even if they went down you can use their price guarantee and they refund you the difference!

Neither do I really, however they are generally cheaper and for a beach holiday in a single hotel it doesn't really matter which way you do it, but the package holiday could be a lot cheaper.

Last time I booked one was 2011 when I did a week in Egypt to learn to dive. The flights alone were only £100 less than the whole package at a "5*" hotel. I then just booked the diving separately.

Correct, and its in the way of afternoon showers to an almost clockwork like regularity. Mornings are always superb /w clear blue skies.

Its just that when it rains it really does downpour. If you're caught out in it, you'll be completely soaked from head to toe. Indeed it does give the islands a much needed cooldown. But at the end of the day, what would you rather have? Glorious sunshine all day long, with warm low humidity sunshine. In the mid 20's. (i.e perfect) Or hot and humid mornings, which are actually nice (rarely dipping below 27c, but really feeling like 30 in the humidity) but quickly rising too uncomfortably hot lunchtimes, 35ish, BUT with the humidity feels like 40 with menacing clouds coming in, then dumping buckets of water on you. + Aug, there's always the threat of a hurricane or tropical storm on the horizon.. If one actually hit, you could be up the creek and stranded on the island.

Right, we've changed our approach slightly... instead of Caribbean in August we're now thinking Indian Ocean in November. The USA/Caribbean thing was going to be way more expensive than we thought, and we've seen pics of some friends' recent honeymoon to The Maldives which looks pretty ****** awesome.

Contacted a bunch of travel agents to see what they can do, any recommendations from previous visits?

A few pics of our trip to the Maldives :)

The way we did it was get an agent to come up with an itenary, I then researched the hotels and made a change where appropriate (ended up booking myself as they couldn't match the price).
