Recently installed a Xonar DGX into my dad's computer to fix an onboard sound problem he was having (on board sound is knackered). However card has started to make what I can only describe as a high pitched buzzing/feedback noise or a noise similar to what a 56k modem would make. It is constantly there and have tried different drivers and messing around in the audio control panel that comes bundled with the driver. The noise only comes from what would be the FL speaker in a 5.1 setup or the left speaker if you were wearing headphones. I have ruled it out being the speakers as I've plugged my Q701s in and the noise was coming through the left channel but not the right.

Any ideas? The card is two year old but spent a year collecting dust as I couldn't get it working on my computer so have passed it on. The sound card did work till Windows 7 was reinstalled the other day due to new hard drive.

It may be worth reseating it or trying it in another slot (if possible).
Do you have the cable for the front panel connected? If so, try it without.

Double checked it's seated right but I'll give it a third go. No other PCI-E slot to try.

I'm fairly sure the front panel isn't connected but I'll double check when I checked the card is seated correctly. However the way things are now, the sound card did work at one point.

Anything else changed, like the graphics card?

Nope still the same graphics card as before. The PCI-E slot is right next to the graphics card though and there isn't much of a gap but enough of a gap for it not to be interfering.

Does it happen all the time or only when the graphics card is being pushed hard?

It's constant and starts as soon as you get to the desktop and doesn't go away. Even playing a game doesn't muffle it out as it's still as loud as it was before. There's someone selling the same card on the MM which I'm tempted to buy to rule out the card being faulty or not.

worth a shot as it won't break the bank.
It really sounds like some EMI to me, though what is causing it or why it should have started all of a sudden is anyone's guess, though it may mean a component is going faulty and hasn't gone pop yet.

I'll give another card a go if I can get one cheap enough. Interestingly I couldn't get the computer to POST last week so could be related, especially with regards to EMI. Failing this I'm out of ideas.
