hi

i'm really having issues running 2 290x pcs+ cards at stock. it seems they both run fine separately but when in together, the system crashing to a black screen while gaming.. from the tests I've done it's seems to be a heat issue. both cards are stable under 69c hence why they both run fine separately because they only reach to about 64c but anything over 70c they become unstable...

i'm thinking if water cooling would be a good option for me. but bear in mind i'm disabled and can't use my hands so let's say i got someone or my mum to help me set it up (basically to be my hands). what maintenance would need to be done and how many time per year?

if so what would i need to water cool 2 290x pcs+ cards (not including cpu)?

They shouldn't crash at 70C, I've had those cards running at almost 80C and had no problems. Pretty odd.

thats what i thought...

but if i try to rma them they'll just say the cards are not faulty because separately the cards work fine due to temp being way under 70c.

Make a custom fan profile so that separately they go over 70C and see what happens.
The only thing I can think of is the VRM's on one card are overheating. Not sure though.

even using custom fan profile theres no way to keep the top card below 70c even if i set the fan to 100% the temp gets to around 75c.

has for the vrm's temp when using cf the top card vrm gets to 89c/64c.

if i have one card in the vrm's temp gets to about 75c/56c.

i even tried having one card in then slow down the gpu fan to get the core temp to 74c in a game and it crashed

Explain exactly what you've put in the last post (that by creating a custom fan profile to force the cards over 75C, they can be made to crash solo as TheFogo suggested) to the place you bought them from and get the cards returned. When I had a weird issue, I videoed it on my phone and posted it to YouTube, then sent a link along with the RMA.

So long as the supplier can recreate the problem (which it sounds like they should be able to) you should get working cards back.

Yeah this is what I meant in my post.
Do both cards do that?

i had a talk with gibbo about a week or so ago and he said it's an heat issue.

but my problem is because the cards work separately at stock / auto fan. the retailer won't replace them.

Oh yes I remember you posting about that.
Not sure what you can do then :(

tbh it's doing my head...

i had a Asus Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC card which was overheating so i rma'ed that then i had a replacement and that was artifacting at stock so i rma'ed that, the retailer then said it's not faulty but i knew 100% it was and i proved to them.... anyway i told them i don't want it back so they said i'll need to pay a £10 fee so i said ok fine has can't be bothered with the hassle, so i swooped it for a powercolor 290x pcs+, that had performance issue but after contacting powercolor that got sorted and everything was great. so i then decided to buy another powercolor 290x from ocuk this time. it had the same performance issue but after contacting powercolor that got sorted also. but then i notice this black screen issue which is due to heat.

so i know what will happen if i rma these cards. they'll just say the cards are not faulty..

Should easily be able to hold those temps without crashing, as it happens with both cards separately in the case (low fan to increase temps) i doubt both are faulty, so that points to a system problem. Have you tried running the whole system @stock to rule out the OC on the CPU also having a problem?

Watercooling is fairly expensive, well..it can be, so it's a big step that might not cure the problem.

yes tried that... still same.

what i can't understand is if i under clock the core to 1000mhz it seems fine even at 75c - 80c+
