Hey,

Im upgrading my PC, but I am now on a tight budget. I orginially planned for a 4690k but a broken oven has taken up part of my PC Build funds.

I've seen a few 15 2500k's and z67 mobos around for £120, just wondering if this will be a worthwhile upgrade from the Q6600 i currently have?

I think I could probably stretch to £150 for a cpu/mobo combo. Is the 2500k / z67 the best combo I could get for this price 2nd hand?

Also ram, is 2400mhz ram worth it? The Kingstom beast is on sale here at £60 8gb worth. Should I get this, or save money with 8gn 1600 or 2133mhz ram?

Im probably looking at getting a GTX 760 as well.

Thanks.

Thanks.

2500k is so much better, think the z67 maybe limited to 1600mnz if you can grab a z77 motherboard that would be better.

yeh well worth it, is a pretty big upgrade from a q6600

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear.

I've just been checking out the i5 3570k as well. It doesnt look to be to much over the 2500k in price. Would the 3570k be worth the small bit extra over the 2500k?

Also, thanks for letting me know z67 is limited to 1600mhz.

Personally i would say the 2500k is a better overclocker. The 3570k ushered in the era of poor quality TIM in intel cpus.

Z68 has an official limit of 1600mhz but MANY people have memory clocked higher than that :)

Thanks for the info, have to say a little surprised to hear 2500k would be better. Appreicate the advise! Sounds like I will go for the 2500 then.

I have a 2500K dude, and are sticking with it for the foreseeable future. If you look at the benches, in games, there is no difference between sandy and ivy, clocked up to 4.5Ghz, its a beaut of a chip.

When I went from a Q6600 to an I5 2500K the difference was night and day in BFBC2, the CPU and platform improvements together made the upgrade massive.

Would be the best bang for buck upgrade as well if you can pick it up for 120ish plus RAM
