Wedding proposal abroad....

I did this last week in Slovenia :). Kept the ring in my headphone case and case in my pocket the whole time. We were sharing a backpack so it was a bit hairy at times (thought she was going to ask me to borrow my headphones at some point) but fortunately got away with it.

Hiding it in something in your bag is risky because what if your bag gets stolen? Particularly in SE Asia it's often a case of chucking bags onto the bottom of a bus and driving for hours. Sure you'll wake up every time you stop and sure no one will left any bags from underneath? I didn't have a problem while we were there for four months but why take the risk? The best thing is to keep it on you at all times imo, or at the very least in your handluggage.

Yeh I won't be leaving it in my suitcase at all really, especially if i'm going on a bus journey. Luckily we've only got 2 bus journeys and they aren't overnighters either, its the internal flights that i'm more worried about and the potential language barrier issues if it flags up going through the airport security!

Did this 2 years ago in Italy. Had the ring in my camera bag (hand luggage) for 2 weeks. This is the bag I took with me each day when out and about so the ring was never left at the hotel unless we were having a day round the pool. I then slipped it into my pocket for the meal on the last night of the holiday. After the meal and then cocktails at a bar I said we should have one last walk by the lake before going back to the hotel.

Boom!...she had no idea at all.

One of the best things I have ever done, nobody knew but me, hadn't told another soul on earth I had been researching and shopping for rings.

Did you have any problems going through airport security?

I've got a backpack that I generally use for every day use whilst on holidays so will probably use that. I might sew in a secret pocket or figure out a cunning way of keeping it hidden.

Another question for those of you who proposed abroad. Did you take the ring box that it came in with you or did you just take the ring solo?

I carried it on me everywhere I went so that I could find the opportune moment to do the deed. I took 2 flights (albeit within Europe), and visited numerous places. Admittedly this isn't SE Asia - but it shouldn't be that bad a place. If you're concerned don't bring it with you, and bring a cheaper alternative and take a picture of the actual ring. Personally I wouldn't worry about it and just take it :)

Took the ring in the ring box, it was important for me that I could open the box and present it in the traditional way.

Ring in box was in my bag for security, not an eyelid was battered. Plenty women take jewellery through so it's nothing unusual.

Don't worry, just enjoy it, good luck matey.
