*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

For those who have had their console a while, how are you finding the 500Gb hdd? I am wondering whether I should upgrade it day 1 to avoid hassle of having to back things up later on. I don't do digital downloads and can't see me doing it unless they become a lot cheaper so I am doubting that I will ever need a larger hdd.

got plenty of space on my 500GB hybrid drive but I delete any games I do not play.

all games install as standard to the hard drive, even the disc versions, so buying digital has no impact vs disc based games.

Anyone had any joy by doing it over the phone with Sony direct? I am happy to send it off and wait for a new one as I have my second one.

Yes, they will do it over the phone and only over the phone. Enjoy waiting on hold while you try to get through. The UK number is 020 3538 2665.

I didnt know they install automatically. I delete any old ones too, I think my 360 is only about 80Gb full. I will leave it for now then, I can always upgrade if I need to.

Cheers, I am in Spain, so will look up the local number (and hope they speak English :) ).

You reckon they'll send me a new or reconditioned one?

Personally I think 500GB will be plenty for most people, by the time you're coming close to filling it there's bound to be games on there you don't play that can be deleted.

I have a 1TB SSHD in my PS3 at the moment which I intend to move to my PS4 soon (perhaps in time for Metro Redux this Friday) but that's more for performance reasons than for capacity.

Just back from Asda with a brand new PS4 and a £20 refund because the price has dropped since I bought the first one.

Happy with that result. :)

The 500gb for me seems to be enough, I just delete old stale games. it installs games and updates so quickly don't see the point storing endless games , many of which I don't play or not playing at the moment...

Anyone else having a problem whereby when you highlight a game on the homescreen you can't scroll down to recent activity or overview or anything?
Yes same here, i have to leave it a while for the overview to 'load up'.

I have 5 full games and plenty of PSN stuff and still have room, if you don't do digital I reckon you'll be fine.

As mentioned earlier digital vs physical means nothing as physical copies get fully installed. On average you may be able to install 12-15 AAA games ish with the default drive. If you delete old games that you no longer play then 500GB should be plenty for most people.

I doubt I will ever have that many installed, at most on my 360 has been 4 or 5. As I said I was only asking to avoid the hassle of doing in the future when I will need to back-up / transfer files but seems like 500gb will be enough for me.

I didn't see the mentioned earlier but yes of course you are right. I think 500 is enough for the average gamer.

I bought a 500GB hybrid drive because you can easily sell the stock drive for around £30+.

Meaning upgrading to a hybrid costs peanuts. Beware though that Sony ask for the stock drive when sending them back for some reason, I'm hoping they accept mine with zero hard drive in it and explain why (as I no longer have it).

I will now wait until it's inadequate for use (gets filled up) or until a 500GB SSD can be had for <£80 brand new before upgrading to something either bigger or faster.

I put a 1tb sshd in mine, I really dont think I'm ever going to use even half the space on it though, Its good knowing I have that extra space available if needed though.

And it also helps with loading into BF4 maps as well, always one of the first to spawn.

Realistically they are not going to accept a faulty PS4 with no hard drive inside it... if you choose to sell the original drive knowing that they have every right to ask for it back in case of repair or replacement, then that's just a bit daft. Sensible option is to keep the original drive somewhere safe in case it needs to be put back in.

The rubber in my left thumbstick (launch day controller) went after a recent Resogun session. It looks like i've gauged a dent in it with a fingernail, but I reckon it happened slowly over time.

Bit annoyed, using my 2nd controller for now, as the "tear" is where I rest my thumb on the stick.

No way I can be bothered to return the whole thing to the high street retailer.

Just out of interest, why did you (and others with this issue) not put a cover on it? This has been a known issue for months and months... :)

I didn't because I'm within my warranty period and have paid money for a product free of defects.

I didn't use the pad in a manner which would exacerbate the problem and shouldn't have to buy covers manufactured by a third party to stop an inherent fault becoming an issue.

I'm simply exercising my rights as a consumer.
