1k Gaming/Video/Photo - Rig. Ex console Gamer Needs YOUR help

Hey folks

Ex Console gamer here, i've seen the light! but i don't know how to cross the muddy field of CPU's, GPU's and Graphic cards...etc

Basically, i'm a little bit of a Noob when it comes to custom Rigs. I usually buy off the shelf.

I'm looking at ordering a Custom rig off of OC and getting them to, hopefully, build it for me, i've looked at a fair few components, but looking through this forum I’ve found that you guys know your stuff.

So I’m wondering what you would build with £1000??

I need this computer for Gaming and occasional Video & Photo editing.

I also need the OS incorporating into the price.

I don't need any peripherals.

Bonus question - I’ve put aside a separate £150 for a monitor, is there anything you'd recommend for that?

You could lower this closer to your 1150£ limit by changing CPU from 4790k to 4690K.
I did not include the DVD drive, I don't use one myself.
If you need one, add 20£ for internal or around 27£ for external one.

The Powercolor R9 290 is supposed to come with 8GB Free ram, so I would check that the offer is still valid. If it is then drop the kingston ram from the basket.

my sig has some builds in it, ps i strongly reccomend getting the I5 instead of the I7 if photo/video editing is only occasional, in games you literally wont notice a difference, I5 is more power than many have, in other words: listen to Lee

note don't buy EVERYTHING on his list if the GPU still comes with RAM as he's also included some ram separately in the list, i think he already warned you but i wanted to be extra sure as i understand this can all be very confusing for a beginner

You realise that the monitor is a 144Hz right ? In other words a faster graphics card is actually useful in this situation. If it was a bog standard 60Hz monitor then a 280X would be fine.

better spent is an opinion in this case because id rather spend on the guts of a computer than a box...

20-30 case does not mean it is cramped...anything that is normally fitted in a 1 GFX system does not need more than that...

which btw the case Ive specd is actually very roomy...

lower price does not mean worse. infact it is all psychological. Being more expensive makes you think its better but it really isnt...why do think "brands" make you pay more - to manipulate you to think its worth more

So why didn't you spec an £800 pc then ? Nobody forced you to spec a £1100 pc.

@ OP: if your main focus is gaming, and you're not editing masses of video, and that's how much you have/want to spend on your rig, then my opinion is that Lee's build will give you better gaming performance, and acceptable video editing power.
depending on the amount of video work you do, it might be worth upping it to an i7, but there's nothing to stop you doing this later.

I would however spend the extra £15 on the PSU and get the leadex....just cos it's prettier but also, you have the extra 100w if you need it, and fully modular will make the build so much cleaner looking.

Relax, none of these builds are objectively "better" than others, just different ways of spending the money.

I've bought placky £30 cases and much sturdier £60 cases, and prefer the latter. Maybe £25 gets you a perfectly good case these days, or maybe you just don't mind putting several hundred quid of electronics in a flimsy case, it's personal preference.

Also I've used <£200 monitors and >£400 monitors with the same screen size, and the more expensive ones are obviously better. Better colours, less ghosting, better build quality, looks, accessories... But is it worth it? Personal preference. I believe so, you may not.

Kinda fallen in love with that Corsair case, it’s a bit weird. As a heads up for all, the Powercolor Radeon R9 290 no longer comes with the free RAM. So I opted for the Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X as it's on offer this week & the HyperX 8gb Ram.

With the £30 Cash back with the Z97-K (Big up to Lee32uk) that will bring me back to my 1k budget. OC have quoted me around £60 to get this sucker built.

What do you guys think?
